ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The young man shot to death earlier tonight December 14, 2014 in Road Town has been identified as Paul Prentice.

This news site is now satisfied that the next of kin of the young man has been notified of the death and thus we can now release his identity.

Police said that investigations are ongoing and are appealing to the public for persons to come forward with any information regarding the shooting.

See previous article published on December 14, 2014:

Man shot in RT; lying on road

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A young man was this evening December 14, 2014 shot and was up to a few minutes ago lying in the middle of the road.

According to persons close to the scene, the shooting took place across from Said’s Department Store in Road Town, Tortola.

It is alleged that gunshots were fired close to an adjacent store and the young man was running from the gunshots. Police and emergency medical services have since arrived on the scene.

This news site has been provided with the full name and address of the victim but out of respect for the immediate family members we have decided to withhold that information.

Public Relations Officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Diane Drayton confirmed with this news site that there was a shooting incident near Waterfront Drive and that one man had been taken to hospital. However eyewitnesses have disputed this and have confirmed that up to post time, the person was still lying in the middle of the road.

This news site will bring you more details as they become available.

Yes but Tortola is only 23000 people and 12000 adults so if you have a crime like this, with population so low this is more than disturbing furthermore it was in heart of town if front of all those people

What determines crime is not the population numbers. The sure predictor is the culture of the population regarding violence. The majority of this small populace is from cultures of very high murder rate. Replacing a BVI populace of zeeroo crime. Bvi is it's own enemy to have created this monster. Why the pretense?
What the BVI needs is a moratorium on immigrants from the offending countries if it is serious about reducing crime..

Get cough with a gun it's 5 years. Each short is 3 years.. the small guns carry 8. That's 24 years alone for just the shorts and 5 extra for a gun + 15 to life for murder.

The government encourage murder for the fact they do nothing to help the problem. .. ND say crime low not done. .but they wrong.. it's too high.

The young man was lying in the road for maybe half hour before the police came and the ambulance arrived approximately 15 minutes after the police. To me this is crazy. If we are serious about saving lives we cannot take close to 1 hour to attend to someone who is dying. The other thing I cannot understand is the lack of urgency in dealing with these matters.
I don't know if it's camera trick or what but when I watch Tv I see medical personnel moving with urgency I just don't see that here. We are too laid back. Chances are the young man's life could have been saved if he was attended to right away. The young man should not be lying in the road close to an hour before being attended to. The hospital is just a stone throw away.

To the family of the deceased, My condolences. To the coward who shot him, Are you happy right now?Do you feel a sense of achievement? Will you have sweet dreams tonight? What if you die tonight, where will you spend eternity?

Don't forget,we are mere mortals and our days are numbered.

What about the coward that killed this young man, isn't that person a joke? Murder is not a crime that the police can ever stop. It's not a main preventable crime. It just take a simple disagreement with two or more persons and someone can be killed. The police cannot stop that so to be always blaming the police about people being killed is just unfair. We need to start put the blame where the blame is suppose to be and just stop chatting crap every time someone Is killed. What the citizens need to do is work together with the police to solve these senseless killings of out young men.

Unfortunately crime is not down. The Premier is acting as if by acknowledging that crime is on a rise would mean or give people the impression that NDP is the reason for the increase. It wasn't so long ago that an online news site would be a bad investment as news was generally slow. News papers would be filled with basically updates from articles a week ago as things were slow. It only takes a little research to see that thefts, burglaries, gun crimes and rapes are all on the rise and only an idiot or a liar would try to act like it is on the decline. I think what the Premier was doing was maybe comparing a small sample size like from the year before they got elected to the following year but that would be misleading. Compare it to 20 or even just 10 years ago its been a significant jump. It is a very accurate statement to say that crime in the BVI is on the rise.
    • .... (17/12/2014, 11:04) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
Well that's what he was referring to you clown. You think he would be referring to a 20 year span?? As the population grows and times change, you really can't expect the BVI to be the BVI of 20 years ago now do you. When we say tourism is down, it's usually compared to the year before, not from 20 years ago. So of course he's saying that crime is down from last year or even 2 years ago. My God, do you people have any sense messon?? The nonsense you people talk is MIND BOGGLING.

Who showed compassion on the scene by covering the body with a sheet, two shirts etc. ...rather than wait for 'investigators' and/or 'medical' to do so? Im not clueless to the law but my guess is that everyone was too busy giving their opinion, blaming the NDP, police etc.than stepping up to the need!

I get really upset when ppl blame the government whether NDP or VIP. Parents need to stop being their children friends n be their parents. The government cannot stop your children from being a menace to society when parents dont take the time to tell them wrong from right because they are fearful of offending them. Stop the crap. What did we expect ?! The world is a cycle! LITERALLY. That's not just lyrics from Richie Spice's record. Some refer to it as "karma" - it's real. That group of guys has it coming, but sadly it may be too late. "We're known by the company we keep." Rest in peace Paul. Condolences to his family and 'true' friends.

Outrage is cheap, voting out the NDP is easy. Putting money where our mouth is would require us to march on the government and the police until crime is addressed

Some comments in this forum is irrelevant. All the nit picking of peoples words or lack there of aint helping the cops bring this killer to justice! WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM! I agree with the person who said for 25 out of the 30 unsolved murders, it have who's living among us and KNOWS SOMETHING in relation to these unsolved murders, and hasn't spoken up. How can we live like this? Continually living in fear of the hidden unhidden murderers that walk and live and eat and sleep and work (or not work) among us and party and smile and laugh and pretend to be that "bff" that we all confide in?????? And we act as if nothing is wrong with keeping THEIR secret. These brothers, fathers, uncles, cousins, bestfriends, lovers, husbands- WHO EVER- THEY NEED TO BE CALLED OUT! People like them DON'T deserve to live in our Natural Paradise, who's reputation is EVERYTHING to our economy! If we let them continue to spoil what our families have built, then what do you think will become of us with no income from tourism??? A lot of us better wake up. This is going to resonate for years and who do u think is going to feel the backlash? Hmmm. And it's funny because my granny always made it a point to remind me that a parent is suppose to 'train up a child in the way that they should grow, so when they get older, they won't depart from it'. As much as we talk, kids will quicker imitate what WE DO rather than what we say. Be careful, OUR KIDS are watching to see what we're going to do about this. Remember, we've got to want justice for all our victims because they should've all STILL BEEN HERE. Speak up because keeping silent is just as vad as pulling the trigger.

"Deh Little Sissy" if you love Paul as the way that you are saying that you do. You need to speak up and say something to the authority. If this is the last thing that you can do for him, he will be forever smiling down on you. How can you say that you love someone and seed that they was killed in this manner and keep silent about it.

anyone with knowledge of who did this who then keeps quiet, is implicit in letting the killer go free. otherwise known as aiding and abetting. have courage and use the crimestoppers anonymous number if you are scared of reprisal.
