ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The 75 year old man whose non-responsive body was found in the water at Cooper Island on Sunday, February 16, 2014 has been confirmed by our informed and reliable source as Mr John Norbert Zeelander.

The death of the man was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Virgin Islands Royal Police Force (RVIPF) Ms Diane Drayton who did not release the name. She however did confirm that information about the discovery was indeed authentic as was reported by this news site.

“He reportedly was snorkeling prior to being found in the water unresponsive. Attempts to resuscitate him by VISAR were unsuccessful. Name of the deceased is being withheld at this time. Cause of death is still to be determined,” said Ms Drayton.

In addition to the information provided by Ms Drayton, VISAR’s Mr Phil Aspinall told this news site that upon responding the emergency call, they had found a woman attempting CPR on the lifeless body and because the severity of the response their main focus was to continue CPR while rushing the man to the Peebles Hospital.

“We couldn’t focus on collecting any details at that time, so we don’t even have his name,” said Mr Aspinall.

Like the RVIPF, our source said that the man was said to have been snorkeling when he met his demise.

Our source has confirmed that most of Mr Zeelander’s close family members have been notified of his death at the time of sharing his name with this news site. He was said to have been born in Belgium but had been a resident of the USA for many years.

This news site extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr Zeelander.

We get over 500,000 tourists visiting the BVI each year. Hmm, let's see what are the chances that a few can drown in our waters, especially older ones. Ya'll that stupid or just like to blog for the sake of it?

If you check other places around the world, you will find the same unfortunate accidents of drowning. It is not just here people. Do your research and stop acting as though you never heard of this before. So sorry for the people who thought they would be home again with their families. The elderly seem to have a harder time managing in the water during the winter months. The undertow has a strong pull.

The deceased was a good friend of mine and was in good health for a man any age. He had been visiting the BVI for many years and there will be a loss for his friends there. He was far from reckless and just seems to have succumbed to an unexpected cardiac event. It is very sad for his survivors and his many friends.

The deceased was my cousin. He was an amazing, intelligent and successful gentleman who left behind a loving family and many friends. This was a yearly trip for he and his wife and a well deserved one after a very difficult year. At this very moment more than 4 days days after this tradgedy we are still awaiting the proper paperwork from BVI to bring my cousin home so we can hold a funeral for him. Reading some of these disturbing comments obviously written by someone with no compassion or heart sickens me. He was far from "elderly". please watch your comments and may your family never have to go through something like this.

Well Sah... This is happening a lil too often now. Esp with elderly folks. We want the BVI to be remembered at the Paradise of the world....not a watery grave!!!! Comeon if yall fragile hearts cant keep up with the younger gen in snorkelling, please keep out the water.... and just poke your toes in from the shoreline!!!!! Thank god there's no one to sue!!!!!
