BEEF ISLAND, VI – The second road fatality to have hit the Virgin Islands in less than a month, allegedly resulted in the death of yet another young man riding a motor cycle without following the road safety rule of wearing a helmet.

The conclusion was drawn as no helmet was found by members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Officers (RVIPF) at the gruesome scene of the accident last night, January 19, 2014, which occurred sometime after 11 p.m. and the lifeless body of 21-year-old Malik J. Aaron laid on the road with visible serious head injuries.

Eyewitnesses, who were mainly other scooter riders, were overheard saying that Aaron was allegedly riding at a very fast pace and lost control of the bike which resulted in the accident.

It was after a long period of inquiry and searching that the motor cycle was found at the side of a taxi stand at the airport.

When this news site arrived on the scene, the parents of the young man were present and were being consoled by loved ones.

Police Officers had cordoned off the area debarring traffic from traversing that section of the road. Persons en-route to Trellis Bay would have had to drive through the Terrance B. Lettsome International airport. The road was cleared and reopened at approximately 02:30 a.m. this morning January 20, 2014, as the body was removed at 02:15 a.m.

The atmosphere, thou already solemn, was saddened even further as the night grew older and reality started to hit home that Aaron was indeed dead. The cries of a bereaved mother rang out with pains through the silence of the night, “Oh lord have mercy, let me see me son,” as the father Enos Aaron and others tried to console her.

In a bid to grant her wish, the bereaved woman was driven closer to the scene where the body laid covered under a sheet and surrounded by several police officers. As she got closer reality became even clearer, her painful cries grew even louder, “Oh Lord, oh father, aww aww oh Lord,” was all the mother could be heard saying while the father seem to have been the stronger one to support her.

As the night grew older and officers wrapped up their investigations, the body was uncovered for the parents to view. Other close family members also rushed beyond the cordon and were allowed to view the body. The body was bagged and taken away at 02:15 a.m.

Sorry to say but they won't take heed cause since this incident they've been on the roads still without helmets so as my grandparents always useto say, who don't hear does feel and so you make your bed so must lay in it. They don't care about their lives, it's all just fun & games for them but last time I check death ain afraid of no one so leave them stop there with the foolishness

Just Saturday I saw his brother "wheelying" down the stretch there by umi on a dirt bike with no helmet and between cars. They will never learn because they all feel like they can handle a bike better than the next. It is a sad situation and my heart goes out to the family especially his mom. sigh....

First of all, condolences to the family. This is certainly a tragedy for them, and ultimately the VI.
Secondly, I also saw either this young man or his brother "popping wheelies" between Umi's and Digicel on Saturday without a helmet, turning around and driving between cars. Thus we as a people need to decide how this will be addressed. If it is a law that helmets are required, why is this not enforced? If reckless riding is illegal or frowned about, why are these scooter riders allowed to get away with it.
Ultimately, when there is a serious accident or death, we all pay for it, in some form. We need to decide.

@bike man it is indeed sad but why ask the authorities to take away the rights of the masses just for a few. I think the authorities should enforce the law but how do we expect this to happen when "riders" can just ride home and later have officers indicted. Who are we asking to do this Police or PARENTS. These riders are out of control we see them all the time on the street but when they must face the music we hear all kinds of stories, now tell me what do you want to be done?

My condolences also it hard to see the life of someone gone so soon. Please note bikes were not band here to save lives but more out of spike. Fax always gets mixed up in politics. Banding will never solve the problem just create more restless young people thats going to go out break the law and be reckless. We need to think about educating the youths. When my little brother started riding i took him to a riding class which teaches you everything, pros cons and how to handle your vehicle properly. This was a requirement for everyone under 21 in florida. We are quick to just throw things aside never teach the young people and wonder why things always the same.

Rip in peace homie!!!!sad and next one dead. I hope these other young men learn from this. Wear your helmet and slow down. Its going to be difficult to convince the government to lift the band off of bikes exceeding 125, have the age limted to be 20 25 i would like to have a big bike that can go up the hill, than one that i have to walk up the hills!!!!!!! Dont hate

Bikers half of these are children not even a license to ride a bike. 80% the scooters not even registered. Gives bikers a bad name. If i drove my car down the road without license and registration i would be picked up and charged. But the scooters get away with this every single day. And those of us who like to ride and do the right thing will forever suffer for it.

A message to the young people out there that ride scooters irresponsibly! Learn to have a more safety oriented outlook on scooter riding. Wear a helmet although it may not seem 'cool' to you. It makes no sense enjoying the freedom of a scooter if you don;t respect its limitations. How many more of our young people must end up like this before you WAKE UP!

My heart goes out to his family at this very sad time but to be honest, it was just a matter of time before this young man got hurt on a bike. Very sorry that it was not just hurt! He has always been riding without a helmet and performing stunts along Waterfront Drive, sometimes in traffic. These young men and the girls who ride along with them must learn to ride sensibly. Banning the bikes is not the answer. Properly policing their use is one way and perhaps raising the age limit to ride.

Its sad that thats you recommendation. When the police try to enforce it, what happens? They are interdicted and face criminal charges and you all are the same ones who are out there supporting the prosecuting of the officers and say they are harassing the youth. A Lawless nation can never prosper, Mark my word!

There is a difference in enforcing the law and abusing the law. When an officer meets you they are suppose to have to correct protocol but some of them because they know the powers they have, they speak to you how they want, ruff you up and you must accept! NO! They do need to enforce the law properly. Instead of troubling people for tint and such, make sure that the scooter riders are legal.

I am not saying to chase them, which they should not do. Tortola is small, they know whom all rides what, they are not stupid!

Are you mad, thats like saying lets ban cars. Theres been more fatalities in cars here than scooters. The police need to do their job and make sure they go through the proper channels, get their license register their vehicle get insurance. If they had to do it or suffer a fine or jail time it will be a lot less willing to go without doing the right thing.

RIP and condolence to the parents. Another one. The bible said "Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it". (Something like that).  Come on parents. Do not allow another one to go senselessly. Since the government doing anything you have to powers in your had to stop another young person from dying. Parents take your children back into your hands. They might not like you but when they grow old and more responsible they can say I APPRECIATE what my mom or dad did for me to make me a productive citizen.

@Parents to blame: Please note that the young man was 21 yrs. old - no longer a child. When you have trained them and they feel they are of age and make their choices to do what they want the only thing we can do is pray for them and remind them to do what is right. Read the story of the prodigal. So please do not blame Karen, but read the bible to confirm what I said. I just learned about this tragic event. My condolences to Mr. & Mrs. Enos and the extended Smith family....

While you rode without a helmet people turned a blind eye. Now you are gone and people will weep over you and say all the things that they should have said to you while you were here.

I saw this young man on Sat on this very bike that claimed his life doing "wheelies" w/o a helmet, and I recall being very annoyed as he shot out carelessly in front of my jeep doing the nonsense, and my thoughts were, "he's not even wearing a helmet so if he slips while wheeling its flat on his head he'd be..........." I said to myself, I will read about him on the news just now... This morning I woke up and my thoughts were reality.

A few weeks ago a father came out and said his son died from head injuries while on a scooter, and pleaded with riders to wear helmets. I just don't understand how something that could save ur life, consistently falls on deaf ears? Police shouldn't have to "ticket" someone for failure to wear protective gears; your own value for your life should prevail, no? Now a mother mourns simply because her son thought he was invincible. #thiscantbelife

The young will always be ambitious and careless. Soooo, society needs to wise up and put laws in place to arrest these foolishness. Are we waiting until all the young men under 30 to die out before we do something. Instead of taking part in petty name-calling, that's what the politicians on both sides of the house to spend time doing. One life lost is one too much. Smh. Seriously, this stupidness has been going on too long man.

My condolences to the entire family. There are no easy answers to this problem. I think laws needs to be enforced, parents need to have conversations with their children, riders need to make safety a priority and the community need to come together for solutions. How many more families must bury their young men. I appeal to our young people, please be careful and use caution. No one is impressed with the sight of anyone on the ground bleeding to death. Please stop the madness.

Goes to show the ppl you hang with who you think is your friend will gladly turn on you when anything happen to you. When you alive is "boy yea das my boy, das my parda, we cool dred" but in the same breath is the same ppl who will kick you when you down. Your parda down or whether it was just someone who knew him & the 1st thing you could think on is robbing his chain? Somebody been eyeing it a long time...SMH is a damn shame & that's why I stick to my motto of the less ppl you keep round you the better but some ppl cant stick to themselves they all time got to have ppl up in they face & those same ppl digging your eye out your head & you don't even know it
