DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) has indicated that the source of the water leakage at Pasea, which disrupted service in the Road Town area, has been located and fixed.

The Minister’s update came this afternoon, April 29, 2021, in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA) where he told the House that authorities have since indicated that the water pressure will return gradually this afternoon, into the evening.

He said portions of the James Walter Francis Highway had to be dug up to uncover the leak but are now being repaired and the carriageway will re-open as soon as the barriers are removed.

The Minister thanked officers at the Public Works Department for diligently springing into action to repair damages to the road.

Hon Rymer also thanked residents and businesses for their patience and understanding during the disruption and expressed gratitude to the team at the Water and Sewerage Department for their hard work and dedication towards repairing the leak.

UPDATE: Poor weather affected repairs to damaged water main- Hon Rymer

Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) has given assurance that works on the damaged water main at Pasea on Tortola are ongoing and potable water supply will be restored as soon as possible.

Hon Rymer made the update at today’s April 29, 2021, Eighth Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.

“Yesterday… the city of Road Town was blanketed with an unfortunate disruption to the water supply, the Water and Sewerage team was immediately dispatched to remedy and provide a resolve,” he said.

Delay to repairs

According to Hon Rymer, “The updates from the morning observation anticipated at resolution by noon of said day; however due to the shift of weather and prevailing conditions of rain and in some instances fog compounded with the complexity of finding and locating this major leak in the network, resulting in the temporary suspension of the works.”

As such, Hon Rymer said that as a result of the severity of the leakage and to expedite the anticipated works, a portion of the James Walter Francis Drive, going westbound from the roundabout at Port Purcell to the traffic light, has been closed.

“We anticipate to have water restored to the residents as soon as possible. I humbly apologise for this unfortunate disruption and continue to ask for and thank the resilient residents of these Virgin Islands for their understanding and patience as we work to remedy this situation,” Hon Rymer said.

I keep hearing persons complain about not having water. Did I miss something here. Since when do we build houses as a matter of fact any building without cisterns

Not supplying water for the people is Human Rights Violation as mandated by the United Nations regardless of cisterns or any privately owned water catchment.
In Third World Countries and elsewhere where the people are marginally educated and ignorant such as the VI,the people are subjected to their Gov whims and violations of vtheir Rights. The insidious toxic smoke from the Pockford Ponds is but another example in the VI.

I suppose the vaccinated tourists, with their unvaccinated children, riding in a bus driven by a vaccinated person with a vaccination proof pasted on their foreheads will not mind the super sink up by the round about . . . stay away from those unvaccinated tourist kids our govt are allowing to come in and roam around. . .

Sewearge is used interchangeably with sewage. Pull out your Webster or google it. Although sewerage is the drainage system, it's all the same. So you owe Well Well an apology smarty pants.

When are the people of the BVI going to stand up and demand better?? Every Govt, the same shit while they all get richer. Where is our water system? Where are our fixed and good roads? Why are schools in disrepair and begging for supplies?? Where has all the money gone in the past 20 years? Why are you letting the Govts continue to steal from us and keep our standard of daily living in the gutter?? Where is the BVI pride?
