LONG BUSH, Tortola, VI- The robbery on Billy’s Superette in Long Bush last evening, December 15, 2016 was committed by a lone gunman, police have stated.

Virgin Islands had first and accurately reported on the robbery moments after it was committed around 9:30 P.M.

Police, in a press release today, December 16, 2016 stated that a lone assailant, around 5’7 in height, dressed in a long sleeve black hoody with a black t-shirt covering his face entered the superette, brandished a gun and demanded money.

“The assailant then made his way around the counter where he took an undisclosed amount of money and exited the store. No one was injured in the incident.”

Police patrols heightened

Deputy Commissioner Alwin James noted the need for members of the community to report suspicious persons or behaviour ahead of any incident and not wait until after the incident.

“As we have heightened our patrols during this time, we have a number of armed officers presently on mobile patrol on the roads that can respond swiftly. We need members of our community to report suspicious persons or behaviour ahead of any incident rather than waiting until after the fact. We certainly cannot be everywhere, all the time so we appreciate the help of the eyes and ears of our community. It is important that persons who witness suspicious activity call the RVIPF three-digit access number 311 and bring it to our attention immediately. Such actions can provide the ideal opportunity to apprehend the individuals involved in these robberies,” he said.

Pay close attention to surroundings

Police are encouraging business owners to pay close attention to their surroundings especially during late night operating and closing hours and remove cash from premises regularly. Business owners should also alternate the times that cash is removed from business premises.

Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is continuing to seek information from the public particularly about those incidents involving the use of a firearm and is asking witnesses to any of the incidents or persons with information to come forward and provide that information.

Anyone who has information that could be helpful with any of the RVIPF investigations is asked to contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339. Persons can also report the information requested anonymously to Crimestoppers through its Miami-based hotline number 800-TIPS (8477).

@Zion; The laws that we have in place ensure that members of the community are sitting ducks ripe for the picking. The criminals are well aware of this and take full advantage of it.

By now can't police use the push pins to estimate next stop or steak out businesses at closing time to find the perpetrators?

How long before the government allow people to arm themselves especially businesses with proper guns. These fools would be given a rude awakening. I hope when we take the law into our own hands and they start dropping like flies we hear no complaints. This is a over now.

the police!!!!(waste of time) the territory need a new head of police: the powers to be have no confidence in locals for certain post BUT sense the induction of the gentleman from the UK as commissioner of police this territory have seen a vast increase in crime(say what you want then prove me wrong)..

It has to take one stupid person to make an idiotic statement, it's one of your belongers that's in charge now he is off island. You'll don't report the crimes but always talking about a local could have done better. Roy Stoutt was there what was his contribution, who did he mentor.

@ stupid: My good friend the stats will show under this commissioner crime is up(don't get up set; it's just a simple fact)...just a question for you "stupid"(given the "fact" we now have nighty gun crime, have you seen any increase police patrols on the public road).have a wonderful holidays and stop trying to make excuses and stop trying to marginalise the seriousness of the matter that is affecting this territory

@wize up: How will police stop crime? That's my question. Answer that, then try figure out how can you stop a an accident from happening? Can you see the cars that will bounce on each other? Can you tell the owners to not drive today? Swapping the commissioner for a local won't solve anything. The meer fact that they criminals are bold enough to make these serious crime won't stop whoever coming in ranking uniform. Your fact checking is correct is on point, but all you do is talk.

thing to talk; if one of us was commissioner of police all the talk shows people will be calling on the governor to investigate this and that: yep; your commissioner of police back in U.K. along with the other U.K. Officers(i keep saying when crime take over our territory these foreign guys will simply pack up and go home) back in the day when we had serious criminal matters all officers on leave had to fall in for duty(your commissioner of police is on his vacation; so let those negros stay down there and kill each other(He will be back soon)

Got to be the same group or person. They do this every year. Police need a rapid reaction team and shoot to kill if they have to. Seems like they scope out the places, watch the routines and then move. People change the routines. Monitor outside your places. Take lots of pictures and videos. Odd but this could be a way the security companies generate business for themselves by having people do this. Dont remove any thought. Look at everything. Police, Customs get Coast Guard help monitor the water ways for late night traffic, stop everything. Check who renting hotels check who renting vehicles check who change their routines. They planning so you plan to. All this could be a fistraction for to tie RVIPF up to bring in shipments. Play smart guys.

I might get hurt but I am taking them down. I am not going to allow some street punks to come in my business and put fear in my employees and customers.
