ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Kenyetta Boynes was today December 19, 2014 remanded to prison when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards to answer to the charge of unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, ammunition and unlawful possession of 16.8 grams of a controlled drug.

Boynes, 31, of Lower Estate, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until January 26, 2015.

The gun, ammunition and controlled drug were found yesterday morning December 18, 2014 during a raid on Boynes’ business. Three others had been taken into custody together with Boynes but they have since been released.

UPDATE: Kenyetta Boynes charged for gun & ammo!

-charged for possession of prohibited gun, ammunition and controlled drug in relation to Paul Prentice’s murder probe; three others released

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – One of the males who had been detained following the continuing investigation into the murder of Paul Prentice has been charged, said the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a press release moments ago today December 19, 2014.

Prentice was shot to death on December 14, 2014 in full view of families enjoying their Sunday evening in down town Road Town.

“Kenyetta Boynes, 31, from Lower Estate has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, ammunitions and possession of 16.8 grams of a controlled drug. He is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate this afternoon,” said the Police release.

It said that Officers from the RVIPF Major Crime Team supported by the Firearms Tactical Unit arrested four persons after an operation early Thursday morning. Three of those persons have since been discharged.

Searches of properties during the operation had uncovered the firearm, ammunition and controlled drugs.

Boynes was recently sentenced in another unrelated matter in the High Court. The matter was in relation to his dealing Aaron Henley a blow so hard that he broke the man's jaw. He had been fined $2K which has to be paid in two months or in default one year in prison. He is also to compensate the victim $1,500 payable in six months or face three months in prison.

2 men arrested for Paul Prentice’s murder - RVIPF

-weapon and ammunition recovered and another male arrested in connection; female arrested for possession of controlled substance

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Police have arrested two men for the murder of Paul Prentice on Sunday evening December 14, 2014 on Waterfront Drive, Road Town, said a press release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) today December 18, 2014.

The young man was gunned down and left to die in the middle of the road and according to eyewitnesses who were on the scene for the duration of the incident, the Police and ambulance took a lengthy time to arrive on the scene.

According to the release, officers from the RVIPF Major Crime Team supported by the Firearms Tactical Unit made the arrests.

“Two males were arrested for murder and aiding and abetting murder and are currently being questioned by the investigating officers. Searches of properties during the operation have uncovered a firearm and ammunition and an additional male was arrested for possession of that weapon. A female was also arrested for unlawful possession of a control substance,” said the release.

It said that the officer leading the investigation Detective Chief Inspector Kath Adams noted her appreciation to those members of the public who are providing witness reports to the police.

“We thank the members of the public who have already come forward to help solve this violent and shocking crime but still seek the assistance of other persons who, we know, were in the area at the time. This crime was shocking because it was committed on a busy Sunday evening in the middle of Road Town in full view of families with children enjoying their evening at the nearby ice cream parlour,” the release quotes Adams as saying.

“Pedestrians were also walking through town and congregations were leaving the church when the incident happened. It was fortunate that no other person was injured as a result of the actions of the gunman,” she said.

According to the release, Major Crime detectives are making an appeal to those persons who were in and around Waterfront Drive/Main Street area about 7.15pm on Sunday, 14 December 2014 and who think they saw something to come forward. “No matter how insignificant this information may seem, it could be the piece of the puzzle needed to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” it said.

Persons with information can contact the detectives directly by calling 468-5682. Persons are also invited to give this information anonymously to the Miami-based Crimestoppers number 800-8477.

An expatriate man told this news site that he was surprised and amazed that no one tried to revive Prentice and ensure that he stayed alive until the first responders arrived. He was also dismayed that the first responders took so long to arrive.

“This is something we train for being in the boating industry. We learn to look for vital signs. Someone should have checked whether his vitals were ok,” said the man who declined to be identified. “When these things happen people are afraid of contaminating the crime scene. But we’re talking about a man’s life. He might have stayed alive if someone had helped,” he said.

"Someone could have put pressure on his wound if he was bleeding...when these things happen you have a 45 minute window to keep the person alive and that's it," he said.

Great job by RVIPF, I hope they got the right ones! To the persons talking about saving the man, people just heard rapid gun fire, see a man running and collapsed. That man could not be saved no matter what you all say. He was gunned down like an animal and when he dropped he was dead. I hope whoever these guys are that the Police held will be locked away for the rest of their entire life if they are proven to really be responsible for this. Early Sunday evening in an area where many families gather? These people are SICK to the core!

Paul did not die instantly. Approximately 20 minutes after he was shot someone felt his pulse and he was still alive. After about another 15 minutes I heard him as if he were taking his last breath. All this time we were there calling 911 and they said the ambulance was on it's way. It took the police approximately half an hour to arrive and the ambulance an extra 15 minutes. There was no urgency and that is sad.

I wish I could have taken up the young man and bring him down to the hospital. It would only have taken me about 3 minutes or less to do so and who knows, his life may have been saved.

Everybody talking about how long the ambulance took to get there. Will shiat, nobody couldn't put him in a car or truck and DRIVE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL if he was there so long buddy??? What was everybody doing, just watching on, twiddling their thumbs? Anybody who was there and did nothing to help him are just as bad. Shiat man. Tired of hearing about how long the ambulance took. He was not nailed to the ground.

Although the situation could have turned out differently if our emergency services were abit more swift, but we may never know if that would have altered the ultimate turn of events..Paul's death, but your presence by his side made it possible that he did not die alone...God bring back our loving BVI.
  • yes it is me (18/12/2014, 18:07) Like (6) Dislike (7) Reply
@good Just stop with your nonsense okay, if they had come on time when they was called they could have saved Paul's life. They didn't reach until a half and hour later. That is a very long time so obviously when they arrived they wouldn't a be able to save him. If people could a carry him to the hospital he would a been saved.
But R.I.P to the fallen soldier. As one born a next one gone!!!!

Black money??? Why they accept such nicknames for themselves, that name alone says a lot. It's extremely sad that he was gunned down the way he did, my heart sank seeing his body on the ground like that.

But on the note with him finding the gun, why you gonna see it and pick it up and take it to your workplace?? When you see trouble you keep away from it, right ? Not tie it to yourself, or report it to the police.

Lord what is happening in this lil place, look at where it happened and the time, wow soon lil children wouldn't need to see action movies anymore cuz they'll stand a good chance seeing it live!! This is very sad

Your comment as well as others is very distasteful as you sit back and judge someone you don't even know. Paul worked hard every day for his money and never took or stole something that did not belong to him. You sit back and talk about people who work harder than you to make money, but instead of taking the time to know them, you stare at him and his friends and make your own assumptions. The same people you are talking about are truck drivers, mechanics, construction labourers who are just as productive as you or any other member of society. Paul got up early every week and went to VG where he worked construction. Sundays he took the time to do his laundry and so what if he found it relaxing at the end of a hard week to relax at the rental. God will be his judge and jury, the same way he will be yours as your mind is filled with too much hate making you no better than the people you are talking about.

Now you need to go sit down and stop trying to make excuses for his killer. Nobody deserves to die in the way Paul did. I just hope they have enough evidence to charge him.

Amen to that! He was a part of the sp...y's family! Every morning he would faithfully head over to Virgin Gorda for a hard day of work doing construction. He was a quiet one but smiled when it was needed. Did not know him personally but his face has been truly missed in the mornings and afternoon..

Hey. I just found a gun. I am thinking what I should do with it.
    Options are:-
    1. Tell the Police
    2. Keep it in the roof of my workshop. (Get ammunition for it. Make sure the breach is filled and ready.)
    3. Give it to one of my two children.
    4. Use it to commit a robbery. (Tell court that I have children so that I should not go to jail.)
    5. Take it to Tortola to give to a friend.
    6. Use it to protect my drugs.
    7. Point it at the Government and say "Where is the promised tough gun legislation."
