ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – While they were granted bail on October 24, 2014 it was only today October 27, 2014 that Jomo Jack, Gerry Freeman and Hugh Erickson were seen by the news site leaving the Magistrate’s Court exercising their bail liberties.

It was reported that there were some issues as it related to some documents that had delayed the process resulting in them spending a few more nights in the walls of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) at Balsum Ghut.

Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online in an exclusive interview today Jomo Jack said that he maintained his innocence from day one.

It is not clear at this time whether there were any challenges regarding bail for Leon King as he was not seen leaving the Magistrate's Court along with the other three.

As it relates James John, his attorney Mr Stephen R. Daniels confirmed that there was no bail application made for him and he continues to be an inmate at HMP. John, he said, had pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

Major drug bust accused 5 granted bail

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Magistrate Dr. Velon L. John has granted bail to Jomo Jack, James John, Leon King, Hugh Erickson and Gerry Freeman in the amount of $1,000 each today October 24, 2014.

They have been inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison for more than two years on charges of being in one of the Territory’s biggest drug bust cases that is currently before the court.

The trial had taken hot turns over yesterday October 23, 2014 and today and the bail applications were made by the men’s lawyers consequent of long drawn out delays in the trial on the part primarily of the prosecution.

The continuation of the trial will also see a different twist as Magistrate John acceded to the application of Jomo Jack’s Lawyer, Jamaican national, Mr Hugh Wildman to have jack tried separately.

While it’s not over until the ‘Fat Lady sings’ the men are free to lead a normal life without the torture that comes with being in prison.

The difference here is that he had to take into consideration the time they have been denied bail (two years?) DPP need to get it together or drop these cases and be done with it. If no bail when they finally get a guilty verdict - if gotten at all they will be sentenced to time already served. He had to let them out in the interest of justice. Bob and crew next!!!

I wonder if there was a typo in the figure. Different magistrate - some like to show themselves and see people as guilty even before hearing the case.
