UPDATE: ‘I never won anything before’ – Ms Brendelee I. Wheatley
It was the third time the mobile telecommunications company was giving away an automobile as part of that promotion and the energy was evident in the store yesterday. It had boiled down to two persons; those with ticket numbers 2 and 10.
Together they popped their balloons to get the key to their fortune box and together they opened. In a matter of seconds as they delved in, there was the burst of screams. Ms Brendelee I. Wheatley was the lucky one to spot the key in her box.
“I am stunned but I am also very happy because I always keep trying, trying, trying and not winning anything so finally it paid off,” said the overjoyed resident of Lambert Estate, Tortola.
She said that she is yet to make a decision how to handle her new fortune as she was already the owner of a relatively new vehicle. “The vehicle I have is practically new so I have to decide,” she said.
Asked if her boyfriend who was on the spot to share in the moment will now be the owner of his own vehicle she responded, “more or less, YES.”
While Ms Wheatley basked in the moment with her boyfriend and other friends, Digicel Commercial and Operations Director Mr. Kevin ‘OJ’ Smith and his team were on the other end eagerly anticipating what’s next.
“As you can see from tonight a car actually changes the life of some persons… we like to know that we are actually giving back to the community, this is something the community actually enjoyed and this is something we want to continue,” said Smith.
He told reporters that they have already started discussions of how to make it better come next year. “You’re going to see when we actually do next year it’s going to be better than this one.” Asked if a car will be part of the next summer promotion, Smith responded, “I don’t think we are going to discontinue the vehicle anytime soon.”
He said that the component that was new this year was the partnership with Nagico Insurances which saw the winner getting free insurance coverage. “We are always trying to partner with to see how we can improve the offering… when we go from year to year and going from strength to strength, improving the promotion, giving more value to the customer makes it more exciting for the person who is using our services.”
Next for the mobile company is their Christmas promotion.

Brendelee I. Wheatley wins Digicel car!
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Brendelee I. Wheatley of Lambert Estate, Tortola, won the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) this evening August 21, 2014 at the final drawing of the Digicel Summer Promotion at their Road Town office.
She managed to beat out 11 other possible winners in the final draw.
The 12 persons who had been eligible for this evening’s draw also won other prizes such as smartphones and had been drawn through a number of different means.
