HORSEPATH, Tortola, VI – Sources close to the investigators have confirmed the identity of the man shot to death in Horsepath, Tortola last night September 12, 2014, as Trinidadian Nyron Ollivierre also known as 'Tin Tin'.

The man died as a result of a shooting incident in which he was allegedly shot three times to the head.

Up to a few moments ago Police were still on the scene carrying out their investigations. This is believed to be the second murder for the year in the Territory.

See previous story published today September 13, 2014:

Man murdered in Horsepath last night

HORSEPATH, Tortola, VI – Police have confirmed that there was a murder of a 33-year-old male individual in Horsepath, Tortola, last night September 12, 2014.

While details remain sketchy at this time, Police confirmed with this news site that the murder took place and that investigations are currently underway.

“There was a homicide last night in the Horsepath area. It’s a male individual. Nothing else that I could provide at the moment,” said the source.

This news site has learnt that the homicide stemmed allegedly from a shooting incident involving a prominent businessperson. Members of the neighbourhood are said to have heard the gunshots.

It is not known whether the Police have placed the alleged shooter in custody. It is also alleged that the person who is now dead had filed a complaint against the alleged shooter as recently as Wednesday September 10, 2014.

According to information reaching this news site, the businessperson allegedly shot a male and police were called in after which it was confirmed that the shot man had died. Allegedly, the victim, a Trinidadian national, was shot three times in the head.

Police in a press release this morning September 13, 2014 said:

“Shortly after 11 o’clock on the evening of Friday September 12, 2014, Police responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Horsepath, Road Town.

The attending officers subsequently discovered a lifeless body of a male in the yard of an apartment block. This male was confirmed dead by a doctor.

H.M. Coroner has been informed and a homicide investigation has commenced by the Major Crime Team. Police believe they know the man’s identity but his name is not being released at this time to allow for relatives overseas to be informed.

Officers are encouraging persons who may have information about this incident, or who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the Road Town area last night, to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit at 494-3822 or the Intelligence Unit at 468-9339.”

This news site will bring you further details as they become available.

Here we go again, blaming Dr. Smith and the NDP, whether the gun law goes into effect ppl gone still get shot regardless. So you'll need to keep politics out of it. Anyways my condolences goes out to this young man's family.
    • @ (13/09/2014, 15:57) Like (8) Dislike (2) Reply
That's a ridiculous argument. The fact is there is no serious deterrent to people having illegal guns and using them in the commission of crimes. The gun laws are very weak, and the law needs to change. You are right in that there will be determined people who will still use them, but strengthened gun laws will have a deterrent affect on some. And those who use them under strengthened legislation will have a higher price to pay.

We cannot have a society whereby people use illegal guns and get off easily. Not only is it unjust, but over time the image that will go out around the world will ruin the economy. Who would want to visit a country where guns are ubiquitous, and there are no serious punishment in place if they are used?

Finally, a promise is a promise. Since the NDP government has made that promised, many guns have been used in crime, and they have not acted. Those who point this out are right to do so. Part of what they campaigned on was implementing stiffer gun law. Clearly they have failed to keep their promise.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if the person(s) who killed this young man knew that if they used a gun in the commission of a crime, they would be facing a long prison term, they would have thought twice of it.

But even more importantly, if they are caught, they should be punished severely. What you are advocating is doing nothing. Unfortunately, doing nothing has significant consequences.

Gun amnesty what gun amnesty? What did it achieve oh yes one gun was handed in. Happy for tha one. Smiles. The whole program was a bust in more ways than one. Amnesty is granted when a law is to be implemented. There was no door or window closing that would spur anyone who have a gun to think twice net thrice about keeping it. This make the whole amnesty thing seems rediculous and no it was actually. Condolence to the family on their loss. I hope the perp get caught soon by the popos or his own noose.

Gash. it hurts, Police need to take reports seriously, Despite of the people involved, where they from, what work they do, or how they look, its a reason why someone will go to the police to make a report, "They feel a certain level of fear, or they are seeking a peaceful solution". (which is the right thing to do) Just Wednesday he went to report the suspect. Was a search warrant executed on the suspect as the complainant was threatened?. These are senseless and preventable crimes. This has nothing to do with Politics or government. I really hope someone investigates the complain the dead guy made and what was done about it, objectively and seriously! It could happen to anyone of us. Please, take people complains seriously and act.

Questions will have to be asked and answered!

    1) What was Nyron doing there at that time of night?

    2) Why was no action taken by the police when the report was made on the 10th September 2014?

    3) Was he in the company of anyone at the time?

    4) Is there any phone records of who could have called him to the location, based on the time of the murder?

    5) Does he reside close to that location?

    6) What type of gun was used, and did the police detain the suspect?

    7) Did anyone see the incident and if they are willing to provide information to the police?

    8) What is that place where the murder took place, is it a place to party/ hotel/bar etc?

    9) Was there any security cameras, security personnel in that place?

    10) What is the possible motive for this killing? ( threats, previous fights, gang related, drugs, revenge etc)

    11) Was there a get away vehicle at the scene, did ppl take the liscence plate #.

All in all this does not make any sense, taking someone's life these days is so common and shows very little value for human life.

May he RIP... AND HIS KILLER(s) be brought to swift justice..

What is the population of these other countries/islands? The figure is small in both cases but very deceiving how it is measured. When BVI had a bumper crop year how was it compared to the other islands. The measuring string can always be cut, stretched or withdrawned for a number of reasons. So I would not put too much in it. One is one too many seen as everybody know everybody so to speak. No politicking here

This has nothing to do with NDP VIP or any P. It has everything to do with the mentality , culture and mindset of the imports that has been chosen by these Islands to be the majority workforce.
I am hoping that we will eventually forge a strong business relationship with China and experience a cultural shift from an imported workforce with the criminal and homicidal mentality which dominates most of the
Caribbean Islands and with which we are merging.

This what is happening now in the Bahamas. China is investing in the Bahamas and Asian workers are beginning to dominate. What we have here is a parasitic relationship where we spend on police, judges, lawyers ,,
Balsum Ghut residency,,education, social programs and what we get in return is a kick in the teeth even from their entertainers who we import and pay big US dollars.

The outcome of this is child-less children, a widow, the loss of a friend, grieving loved ones who never got a chance to reciprocate their feelings and thoughts to this man- NO GOODBYE!.
