St Thomas, USVI – History was created in emphatic fashion on March 17, 2013 as Really Uptown proved his status as a legend beyond any doubt in winning the third and final leg of the VI Triple Crown Challenge at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack in St Thomas, USVI.

Really Uptown surged to the front by a length from the start of the race and built this insurmountable lead to coast on the back stretch and eventually emerge as the clear winner in 1:41 and 1/5 .

Sweet Sight followed in second place while Twisted Dream and News Carrier brought up the third and fourth positions respectively.

Co-Owner of Really Uptown, Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge said she couldn’t find words to describe the victory and promised that the Governor’s Cup was next for Really Uptown.

Fans braved a slight drizzle to witness the event and there was pandemonium once again as they rolled on the track and jumped for joy at the result.

‘Power’ horse Really Uptown is ‘really’ ready to go!

- VI champion horse on verge of creating further Triple Crown history

Really Uptown has already won the two legs of the Triple Crown in convincing fashion and now that its closest rivals Slevin and Good Prospecting are out of the feature race, there is hardly any chance of an upset. The other horses in the race, which will go for one mile, are Twisted Dream, Sweet Sight and News Carrier all of St. Thomas, USVI.

Meanwhile, owner of Really Uptown Mrs Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge told Virgin Islands News Online this morning that her horse is “100 percent. He is ready to go.”

Mrs Hodge did note her disappointment with some of the better horses pulling out. “Yes I am very disappointed but what can I say? If your horse is not ready to run, as they say, they can’t run but yes I was very disappointed because I like the challenge.”

Horse racing fans from the Virgin Islands and even Puerto Rico have flocked to St. Thomas expecting nothing but victory for Really Uptown today. “I feel great to know that we have so many followers and to know that I would be the first one to bring the Triple Crown home, I feel wonderful,” Mrs Hodge said in anticipation of the win.

Virgin Islands News Online has also been informed that a motorcade has been planned for the L&B Stables team this evening on Tortola, win or not since Really Uptown has already created history by becoming the first horse to win two legs.

The motorcade is expected to start around 7:30P.M. on Reef Road in the vicinity of the Police Marine Dock and proceed to Central Administration Complex.

When contacted this morning, President of the St Thomas-St John Horse Owners Association, Mr Wystan Benjamin said “we are all set to go, we are getting ready to secure the gates and ready for the day.”

Mr Benjamin also noted that from feedback received so far, a huge crowd is expected for the final leg of the VI Triple Crown Challenge. “We have a lot of persons from the BVI coming down. There are also quite a few people from St. Croix who have come over early.”

Speaking on between races entertainment, Mr Benjamin said there will be the Spectrum Band “as well as a couple of the marching bands from the High School, among others.”

Meanwhile, the other Tortola horses scheduled to participate in the final leg of the races at the Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack in St Thomas are Orithyia for the 7½ furlong mare race, Good Boy Daddy in the Class D 6 furlong race and Gaffalione for the Class C one miler.

Congrats L&B Stables. When you really think of it, this horse ran 4 races in a short space of time, he ran for Boxing Day races. VI horse owners, you have to go shopping to beat this one and you better bring back a monster because Act's Lil Brother or Jet Blue, Tortola got a Beast in their Stable and his name is "Really Uptown". He is really, Really Good.
