SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI –While 25 year old Elias Wilis-Potter has since filed an official report about the severe beating and stoning incident which marred the Valentine’s celebration at Anegada on Friday 14, 2014, police are claiming that he had never told them of any incident the night in question.

A police source who has asked not to be named in this instance said that Willis-Potter and his father were being unfair to police officers on the Island as they were not aware that Willis-Potter was double-banked and stoned.

“When we reached him he was very intoxicated, he was incoherent, talking about how bad his father was to him how much money his father owes him and a whole lot of stuff, he was incoherent and he was taken home,” police source alleged.

It was related that the night in question police at Anegada were responding to calls from neighbour about noise disturbance and not any report of fight. “Someone called about the noise in the area and that is what the police responded to.”  The source further stated, “We never heard about all this beating and stoning until we read it in the online news.”

When contacted on Monday Willis-Potter indicted that at the time he was at the police station making the report. He was not able to speak much at the time and further attempts to reach him thereafter were futile.

Other sources close to the police at Anegada commended the officers for being well familiar with the Island and being committed to their jobs. “The officer in charge there is one we can say is very committed. We never had any problems in getting any matter addressed over there,” indicated one police source.

The matter is said to be now under serious investigation by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

- RVIPF police accused of not doing their job

SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI – At a time when residents of the Island of Anegada have been calling for the straightening out of a number of wrongdoings especially in government offices, they are now pointing fingers at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) accusing them of not doing their job.

Several residents have alerted this news site to an incident which occurred at the Community Centre at Anegada on the night of Friday February 14, 2014. It was alleged that a man was severely beaten by two men believed to be Jamaican. The victim was confirmed to have been 25 year old Elias Willis-Potter.

This news agency spoke with the victim’s father whose story matched that as told by at least three others with whom this news site was in contact yesterday February 17, 2014. The father has asked not to be named.

According to the father his son was at the event at the Community Centre where there was a confrontation with two alleged assailants. He said that he was not there in person and based on the reports he received, the two were ‘up in the face’ of his son when one of them allegedly pushed Willis-Potter. “My son said he punched the guy that pushed him and that resulted in a fight which saw another Jamaican jumping in, floored him and well and kick up my son,” the man said.

He said a man believed to be Dominican also had grabbed a bottle and was attempting to hit the 25 year old when two locals intervened and attempted to take the bottle from the Dominican. “He (the Dominican) turned on the local guys and that was a bigger brawl,” he added.

The brawl was eventually put to a stop and Willis-Potter was advised to go home which he reportedly did. “But they didn’t stop there… they traced my son and almost killed him,” said the distraught father, referring to the men believed to be Jamaican.

He related that as the 25 year old was in the vicinity of the school he noticed a vehicle approaching and realizing that it was his assailants he decided to run for cover in the nearby cemetery. “This is what made me more upset than anything because it was obvious that they wanted to seriously damage or even kill my son,” the father related.

He said that as Willis-Potter was hiding in the cemetery the men turned on the lights of their vehicle and on spotting him started stoning him.

“One of the big stones got him in the head, one in the back and one in the side. The rock to the head could have killed him,” said the man. He said that it was during the stoning that the police arrived on the scene and took the victim home.

“Why they didn’t take him to the clinic because he was hurt and couldn’t even walk properly. They brought him home and said that they were going to return the following day to take the report,” the man’s father said.

The man said that he had to take his son twice to the clinic over the weekend and on both occasions there was no doctor. He said he had to return with him yesterday when he finally was able to access treatment.

“Until this day, this time (after 4 pm Monday) no police has returned to take a single line of report. They specifically told me that they were going to come for the report and not one police has shown up yet today Monday,” he said.

The father said that he is not taking the matter lightly as he is already in contact with his lawyer as he thinks it is time someone at Anegada stood up to several wrongs that are taking place in Anegada.

“I think that the Commissioner of Police needs to change these officers on a regular basis because they place them here and leave them, they become too comfortable and become friends with everyone and not doing their jobs and that is not right. It has been going on for too long,” the father pointed out.

Elias Willis-Potter is said to be a born US citizen living with his father in Anegada.

Up to late yesterday afternoon February 17, 2014 there was no report recorded with the RVIPF according to RVIPF Public Relations Officer Ms Diane Drayton.

Morris does not need to go but the people that come in to live among us and cannot behave themselves should be asked to leave our islands. They are one causing problems for these British Virgin Islands. Minister of Natural Resources stop taking more work permits our country is over run by these people. Stop! Stop! I beg you. Save our islands and our people.

It should of stay verbal.. without all of this bs. Poor little quite anegada now have to face the facts that someone BLASTED the police officers.. where they are going to start being more aggressive on locals.. which there is about 250-300 people.. that work every day to build there lifes.. with little to no fights, violence, murder or hard drug use.. they should of just resovled this matter through the court system. And not put it on the news that "JAMACIANS" jumped my anegadian son. When I bet all was intoxicated and behind stupid. Luckly it wasn't worse.

This place is too small for this type of behavior. When black will be able to go out and have fun instead of fighting. We are one people. Dont you guys think where this sort of behavior can put you? Well let me tell u either in prison for a very long time or in the GRAVE YARD. Let us all behave and live in love and unity.

The joke is on us now! Outsiders aren't the ones bringing outsiders, it's locals bringing them in so why are you complaining now? We are focused on the whites we let in, but what about the hooligans who are supposed to be our brothers and sisters with similar cultures? Do you hear about fights at Marinas? At the Yacht Clubs? Sports Clubs? Every time we try to have something fun for our people it almost always ends in fighting, gunfire or both. When will we grow up? If we want to reduce permits, tell the locals stop being selfish and hiring/firing people like dirt all to poccket big money.

The last time I checked the population in Anegada was over 500 people. The last time I checked, there was only one police officer working on a three days on three days off shift. The last time I checked with my mathematical figures it shows that the ratio in relations to the population and the one police officer is 500:1. The last time I checked Anegada is a "drop off" point for illegal aliens. I am not the smartest person in the BVI and I don't claim to have much sense, but common sense at times must prevail, and hence I am calling on Mr. Morris and the Mr. Ralph O'neal who is the elected representative of Anegada to ensure that the number of police officers on that islands be increased to a minimum of three per shift. It is full time Anegadians stop taking B*** S*** from the C.O.P. and the government and start to demand equal rights and justice. The same goes for JVD. Where are the police officers that were sent to training school and came back? They need to placed on islands to offset the man-power shortage, so that persons complaint can be adequately addressed and dealt with as swiftly as possible.

So sorry to read what this young man went through. This is an assault on him and I am glad to know that the father is taking action. Some of these criminal Jamaicans come from where they come from playing bad. They need too humble themselves and leave peaceable with people. They need to leave there bad traits in Jamaica, every where they go is some kind of problems and they always in the news. These wild out of control ones making the good and respectable Jamaicans look bad. How shameful! Don't even one to comment on those cops, what a disgrace to the uniform they wear. It goes to show it's just a "job" for them and not looking out to uphold peace and justice in the community.

How is it that everyone wants to blame Jamaica or anyone non-bvi? So there's no bvislanders in jail? We're just a peaceful people who always piss on outsiders? Wait! Bvi wasn't always profitable, outsiders helped build us. And to those ignorant enough to attack this, Keyword was "helped"! But we're so freaking proud, we deny that there's any good out of outsiders, every crime we blame them.
