ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - An early morning fire in the vicinity of the Government Complex, across from Banco Popular, in Wickhams Cay, Road Town today April 8, 2014 completely destroyed two businesses and scorched another before it could be contained by firemen.

By the time Virgin Islands News Online arrived on the scene firefighters had contained the fire and had been seen dousing small blazes. The fire reportedly started sometime before 4 am today.

Senior Police officers in the scene confirmed to VINO that no one was hurt or was in the building at the time of the blaze.

The owner of the building which housed the businesses, Bettito Frett, speaking to Virgin Islands News Online on the scene of the fire, said that he received a call around 4 am that his place was ablaze. He said that by the time he reached there the building was totally engulfed in flames.

When this news site spoke to him he could not say whether anyone was in the building neither could he ascertain he amount of losses he suffered as a result of the fire.

Frett said that he was puzzled as to the cause of the fire that destroyed the building housing two business establishments: the Tree House night club and a restaurant called Spaghetti Junction. A section of the building also housed the Little Switzerland business establishment and this received scorches from the fire but was not destroyed.

More details to follow.

As one of the boat owners at Village Cay, I would like to thank the fire department for a job well done. Valuable property was saved by their professionalism . The Husky Towing guys also did a great job of getting boats away from the flames.

      Thank-you gentlemen.

I wish they were in charge of the planning dept, maybe then my neighbors would not be building on my lot knowing that no one will make them stop!

Ayo need to investigate what's up with these business owners. this is not the first fire for that particular proprietor. Somebody needs to put an end to these.

There was a fire on the same property almost 10 yrs ago around the same time in the morning as well and it completely destroyed several businesses and boats. At that time it seemed like an accident but now a second fire involving the same property is much cause for suspicion. As older folks would say, "lightening don't strike the same place twice". An investigation truly needs to be conducted.
