SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- While all the attention from the small crowd was on the feature battle at the Pre-August Races at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay on June 5, 2016, the day’s earlier match ups had produced some enthralling encounters.

In the first race, LB Thunder of L&B Racing Stables put a series of defeats behind him with victory over 6 1/2 furlongs for Class E horses. Sir Whiskey was second and Gottocha Bob third.

The second race with a purse of $3,000 went to Meddling Birdie in 1: 35 and 2, Yes By Eric came home second and Mark It A Wynn third.

Race 3, over 7 furlongs and worth $3,500, went to Attorrante and 284 Racing Stables in a time of 1: 33 and 2.

Returning Rock was second and Big Meow third.

Race four saw a comfortable win for Honors, by 5 lengths, ahead of Bellamy Chief. Honors covered the 7 furlong distance in a time of 1: 32 and 4 to claim the $4,000 purse.

Brass Note was a distant third.

My Pal Shawn defeats Giant Valley

My Pal Shawn was in a no nonsense mood in winning the 7 furlong feature race at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay on Sunday June 5, 2016.

Ridden by Winston Hurst Junior, the horse led its only competitor in the event from wire to wire, with more importantly, an ease rarely seen when facing Giant Valley.

The race card was dubbed the Pre-Emancipation Festival Races.

“No dirt, no sweat, nothing, so clean,” shouted the members of Family Affair Stables, who obviously were out to prove a point.

“We had our plan and we stuck to it,” commented Alex V. Lake

“I could feel Giant Valley on my shoulder heading into the back straight, but I thought to myself so what. I barely had to ask Shawn as he responded immediately and kicked on to the comfortable win I knew we would get,” noted Hurst Jr.

The winning time was 1:31 and 3.

Shawn had a good day but he still can't beat St. Moose. He's just a good "B Class" horse. If he's a monster......Why couldn't he beat Apollo Sky who was on a layoff for almost a year? But oh well.....keep you all hopes up....If all goes well we'll settle this August Tuesday.
