BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- A 28-year-old man involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday, June 13, 2020, was taken into police custody after a quantity of marijuana was reportedly found in his possession.

Reports reaching our newsroom also indicate the man, who resides at East End, Tortola, attempted to fight off police officers while an arrest on him was being executed.

The accident had occurred at Baughers Bay, in the vicinity of Water and Sewerage Department, around 4:00pm.

Both vehicles, a Dodge Ram truck- driven by the man arrested- and a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV, were badly damaged.

Driver allegedly refused to allow search on him

According to police sources, as the man was being questioned he agreed to a breathalyser test.

Ranks also decided to conduct a search of his person but the man refused to let police search him.

He was; however, subdued, handcuffed and taken into custody. A search of his person reportedly found a quantity of marijuana and a weed grinder.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle, a female of East End, was attended to on the scene by medical personnel and taken to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital with complaints of pains about her body, especially her neck.

Today another accident, wow! Yesterday, I was nervous on the road and couldn't wait to get home. The streets were pretty empty, but cars were racing up and down, passing on corners with a speed, for some reason, I can't explain. Where were they rushing too? It was a holiday and town was pretty empty. There should not be the amount of accidents we have here if people would just slow down and watch where they are going. I hope the injured person will be alright.

Both Left and right hand drivers don’t hold their sides. What’s you guys fascination with right hand drive? A car is a car. You buy what car you want. It’s your money. You seem jealous that other people than locals can buy cars too. Stop the hate. It have expats that own left hand and locals that own right hand too. Time for this left hand and right hand debate to stop .

you are right. Government should stop it and not allow the right hand vehicles. I do not see any in the US where we buy cars due to the convenience.

If you was smart, you would know the US drives on the right side of the road with left hand vehicles. We driving the same left hand vehicles from the states on the left side of the road. Now look at those 2 comparison and tell me which one sounds off to you.

Look at the taxi buses, the left hand drive buses open their doors to the right, we drive on the left which means passengers will have to get in and come out onto oncoming traffic. I know you have seen it many times on the beginning of the highway by the roundabout. The right hand drive buses open doors to the left and let passengers onto the side walk which is the proper way. Us using left hand drive vehicles in the BVI was wrong to begin with. In the UK they drive on the Left like us and use right have drive vehicles. Any country drives on the left uses right hand drive and vise versa.

You do realise that in the US they drive on the opposite side of the road from the BVI, right???

Again, this is how you do it America. You subdue and arrest after probable cause and take to the police station for further investigation. You DO NOT SHOOT OR KNEEL ON NECK OR LYNCH OTHERWISE! Bleeding animals...
