UPDATE - Don’t mind the noise, Devon Osborne tells supporters

Osborne is a candidate for the 9th district in the upcoming general election.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Devon Osborne, an Independent candidate for the 9th district in the upcoming general election, is advising his supporters not to mind the noise and hullabaloo of his “temporary detention” in Puerto Rico yesterday Thursday November 3, 2011.

In an interview with Virgin Islands News Online a few minutes ago on Tortola, a calm Osborne stated that while on a business trip to the US Territory, some $14,000 plus in cash and cheques was seized by the San Juan airport Customs officials but anticipates he will receive them all back in a week’s time.

As a lottery agent, the political candidate explained to this news agency, he carries a sizable amount of cash, which he always declares.

“This is the not the first time that I was questioned,” he disclosed. “Most times I get back the money the same day. As a frequent traveller to PR, I have been checked randomly on several occasions before.”

However, Osborne is convinced that his plight was made public in the Virgin Islands press because some individuals want to tarnish his name and smear his character. He added, “After all we are on the brink of a general election.”

To his supporters he said, “Don’t mind the noise, don’t feel uncomfortable. I have not been charged with a crime.” According to him, he had about $7,000 in lottery tickets as well.

Let me tell you something. Old people should lead by example. People nowadays are NOT like long ago. Ralph has respect for NO-ONE. We ALL should be RESPECTING the ALMIGHTY. You need to be telling Fraser about Honour Your Father and Mother when he put that child to speak against his own Father last election and that lil girl to speak against her cousin OJ in this one. Shameful people. No wonder it's raining so much. God MUST be crying at all the evil in this place.

Politicians must be aware that the electorate hang on every word they t say or did not say and everything they do or did not do. As such they must behave in a manner that what the electorate see or hear is positive and inspiring. Is not gambling illegal in the VI?
  • oh really (05/11/2011, 17:39) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
yes u did commit a crime, as far as i am aware it is ILLEGAL to sell Puerto Rico lottery tickets Aso it is ILLEGAL to sell lottery tickets here, it's called gambling and it is ILLEGAL not to declare monetray insrruments of more than $10,000. How u expect to represent us when u don't respect the laws of our country or any other country. You are just an opportunist not caring which laws you break in the process. I for one am for NO MORE CROOKS IN OUR LOCAL LEGISLATURE!!!!
