UPDATE - Don’t mind the noise, Devon Osborne tells supporters
In an interview with Virgin Islands News Online a few minutes ago on Tortola, a calm Osborne stated that while on a business trip to the US Territory, some $14,000 plus in cash and cheques was seized by the San Juan airport Customs officials but anticipates he will receive them all back in a week’s time.
As a lottery agent, the political candidate explained to this news agency, he carries a sizable amount of cash, which he always declares.
“This is the not the first time that I was questioned,” he disclosed. “Most times I get back the money the same day. As a frequent traveller to PR, I have been checked randomly on several occasions before.”
However, Osborne is convinced that his plight was made public in the Virgin Islands press because some individuals want to tarnish his name and smear his character. He added, “After all we are on the brink of a general election.”
To his supporters he said, “Don’t mind the noise, don’t feel uncomfortable. I have not been charged with a crime.” According to him, he had about $7,000 in lottery tickets as well.
