LONDON, United Kingdom- Miss World BVI Rikkiya A. R. Brathwaite came narrowly close to winning the Talent Competition at Miss World in London today, December 10, 2019 as she placed second to Miss World Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh in the finals.

Rikkiya, 22, was one of five contestants to advance to the finals on December 9, 2019, along with contestants from Armenia, Canada, Jamaica and Malta.

The Miss World Organisation announced via its Facebook page moments ago that the winner of the Talent Competition was announced at the Beauty With A Purpose charity gala dinner in London.

“And the winner is Miss World Jamaica. This is a fast track event and she is guaranteed a place in the top 40 at Saturday’s final...and she gets to perform her Whitney Houston rendition of ’I have nothing’,” it said on its Facebook page.

Rikkiya, whose talent piece was ‘I’m here’ by Cynthia Erivo from the Broadway musical ‘The Colour Purple’, was already guaranteed a place in the Top 40 at the Miss World Finals on December 14, 2019, having won the 2019 Miss World Sports Challenge competition on November 28, 2019.

This is the first time in history the [British] Virgin Islands has achieved such success at Miss World.

It was a good day for the Caribbean as Miss Guyana and Miss Trinidad and Tobago won their Head to Head Challenge to advance to the Top 40.

Rikkiya A. R. Brathwaite advances to Miss World Talent Finals

The success story for Miss World BVI Rikkiya A. R. Brathwaite at Miss World 2019 in London continues, having placed in the top 5 of the Talent Competition today, December 9, 2019.

‘Incredible talent’

According to the Miss World Organisation, today was the turn of 27 contestants to impress the judges in the Talent Competition.

“With such Incredible talent it was so hard to get down to just five finalists who will perform at tomorrow's ’Beauty With A Purpose’ charity gala ball,” it stated on its Facebook page.

It further said only one contestant can go through from this fast track event and claim their place in the top 40 at Saturday's final.

‘Humbled & blessed’

Commenting on the Miss World BVI Facebook Page today, December 9, 2019, Rikkiya said: “Tonight I’m humbled and feel truly blessed to be selected amongst a group of five talented women; as I have advanced to the Miss World Talent Finals!

The elated Miss World BVI extended “special congratulations” to her “sisters” from Armenia, Canada, Jamaica and Malta.

“Additionally, I know it must’ve been a difficult task for the judges to have selected from such a dynamic Top 27. So, to all my sisters who performed tonight, I’d also like to say a job well done. I’m so inspired to be in the presence of confident, talented and caring young women....Miss World is “Girl Power” - Beauty With A Purpose!”

    The time has come for us as a people to shine...and to know that ' I have loved thee.'
