GEORGES NORTH SIDE, Tortola, VI - The body of one of the men who were swept out to sea yesterday, December 8, 2013 during a fishing expedition has reportedly washed ashore near Georges North Side today, December 9, 2013.

The man has since been identified as Kendeye Thomas while the other man who remains missing has been identified as Roger Fraser. Reports further suggest that the two Guyanese men who disappeared were relatives and were also residents of Long Bush.

Police were earlier on the scene conducting investigations. Family members were also reportedly present after the discovery of the man's body.

The two men were out fishing on the north shore of Tortola when strong waves reportedly washed them out to sea yesterday. One of the two men had reportedly attempted to assist the other in getting back to safety when a wave took him out to sea as well.

Rescue efforts were attempted by VISAR but were later abandoned after it grew late and the seas became rough last evening.

Meanwhile, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said today that "the location of a body near the shoreline has been made. Recovery and identification is still in process because of the fierce sea conditions."

More details to come.

@qc-- What do you mean so close to Christmas? This is a tragedy that no matter when it happens is still a tragedy. What does Christmas have to do with it? My heart goes out to their loved ones.

I take it the person means such a special time of year that the family has to grieve even more. It's bad enough they may have lost a loved one.

Much sympathy to the families. This is so sad. The weather has been so bad, I am surprised anyone would try to fish out there. A wave slapped me on the side of my face and knocked me down one day, so I know the force of those waves. Much sympathy.

To Rhonda and family may God keep you in perfect peace. When your heart is overwhelmed go that rock which is Jesus he is the comforter and sustained. We all have to go some day but is how we go. Pray that his heart was anchored with Jesus so you can meet him again. May God be with you.
