Todd-Rhymer was allegedly killed by her former lover, 23-year old Alcedo Tyson. She was found critically wounded in the vicinity of CSY parking lot, Baughers Bay a little after 4 a.m. on Friday March 16, 2012 but died before medical personnel arrived on the scene.
At the funeral service today at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre in Baughers Bay, the tributes were like echoes as persons described how charming Todd-Rhymer was.
It was also said that she lived with her adopted parents and loved playing netball. She is a former employee of One Mart and worked at Delta Petroleum at the time of her death.
Kay Kay, it was also said, wanted to be a lawyer.
Among those that gave tributes were Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum, Bevis Sylvester, who said Todd-Rhymer was a committed worker who always participated in company functions. He also spoke of Todd-Rhymer’s radiant smile that impacted on staff.
"It was only after her untimely passing that I learnt that she had a very strong desire to work with Delta long before she was employed. While reviewing some of our promotional videos and pictures it was rather interesting that she was present at our last year's Valentine's Day celebrations, Easter Parade in Virgin Gorda and even at a staff party at my home with her best friend Amika in June 2011."
Sylvester also said Todd-Rhymer's name would live forever within the Delta family as they are now in the process of honouring her by naming the award for the Most Outstanding Customer Service Attendant for every quarter after her. "The Kawanna Todd-Rhymer Customer Service Award will be the highest Customer Service Award within the company both locally and regionally. Her family will be notified more on this in the not so distant future," Sylvester said.
Among the tributes were from her mom Mereen Stoddard, who said she never thought in a million years that Thursday March 15, 2012 would be the last time she would see Kawanna alive, when she came asking for lunch. "My heart was ripped apart when I got the call at 5am saying that she is gone. It is so hard to accept the fact that she is gone forever and how I wish I could find a way not to cry was time goes by thinking of you saying "mama Mer's you know I love you". The hardest thing is to say goodbye but God knows best."
Her brother Kerry said he would miss Kawanna's smiling face her memories would live on in his heart. Her sister Shancy said she was going to miss the days when they used to tell jokes. "I am going to miss the days we used to play dress alike and cause trouble with our cousins Jamie and Jenelle. Kaykay used to defend me in any and every way, she didn't care whether I was right or wrong. I am going to miss her so much, my life would not be the same without her."
