PASEA, Tortola, VI – The word ‘history’ once again echoed through the air during this the 60th Festival Celebrations of an emancipated people of the Virgin Islands, this time it was the voice of Mr Bevis A. Sylvester, Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum.

That history making moment came after Mr Sylverter gave the word allowing the first batch of vehicles numbering about ten at the Pasea Delta Petroleum fuel station to commence filling up and benefitting from the cheapest gas sale in the history of the Virgin Islands.

They all paid 60 cents per gallon for as much fuel their automobile could have contained during the one minute period.

It all took place at the stroke of midnight of July 31, 2014 when Mr Sylvester and his leading ‘think tank’ team members kept their eyes on the clock. Beginning at 30 seconds to midnight they did the countdown and on the hour the chains to all the entrances of the station were dropped welcoming in eager customers.

Unknown to Mr Sylvester, in one of those lines was Virgin Islands News Online’s roving reporter. We were there to have a firsthand experience of the historic moment and it was proven that they stood to their word. With the fuel tank of our car extremely low and the indicator flashing yellow, in one minute the tank was filled to in excess of 3/4 and the bill totaled $3.95. In reality that sale would have been in the vicinity of some $55.00.

Silently we made another round and were back at the fuel pump however it was at the time when they were giving a 60% discount. Once our tank was filled the bill this time was $11.00 bringing the total to less than $20.00 for a full tank of fuel.

This was the experience of many persons numbering no less than 60 as for each go at least ten vehicles benefited. The promotion went on until 6:00am this morning August 1, 2014 and for the Delta Petroleum team it was a night of giving back, leaving a massive chunk of cash in the pockets of their customers and seeing them drive off with bright smiles on their faces.

And for those who cared, they even had some hot delicious Johnny cakes with the tastiest salt-fish free of cost all compliments of Delta Petroleum, Pasea Station.

Delta unveils 60th Festival ‘SUPA Big’ give-away promotions

PASEA, Tortola, VI – For the management of Delta Petroleum BVI the 60th anniversary of Festival celebrations in the Virgin Islands (VI) is a significant milestone, one that cannot go by without Delta Petroleum doing their part besides being a sponsor to a number of events and activities.

“…We would like to contribute to our good customers, to our loyal customers and to our potential customers. This promotion is released today (Monday, July 28, 2014) for the very reason of ensuring that we are a part of this event, Festival emancipation time,” said Mr Bevis A. Sylvester Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum.

According Mr Sylvester, this year they have made their promotion one of the biggest for customers of the fuel and gas company.

For the period of Monday July 28 to August 4, 2014 Delta Petroleum will be selling a 20lb cylinder gas for $16 and for a 100lb cylinder its is $60 for the same period. This accounts for a $9 discount on the 20 pound and $25 on the 100lb.

On the spot Mr Sylvester took the recommendation of from its longest serving staff Mr Moses to have the price for the 30lb cylinder be $20 and the 10lb cylinder will be for $6.

For loyalty card members with one of the emancipation number plates launched specially by the Department of Motor Vehicles for the 60th Festival, that ends with 60 that license plate owner is entitled for $60 free high Octane gasoline from Delta.

“As we move on with our celebration, if you have a loyalty card from Delta Petroleum and you are 60 years of age, you’ll receive $60 free gas,” announced Mr Sylvester. This will be given in the form of a voucher.

The other promotion was described as ‘crazy’. “On Thursday night we will be having an emancipation celebration here in our service station. It’s from 12 midnight to 6:00 am. It’s an insomnia celebration. If you are not here you are going to miss it,” said Sylvester.

That aspect of the promotion carries a theme, “60 seconds, 60 cents a gallon” This will be happening six times during the 6 hour period of the insomnia jam session. “We are going to be announcing when it’s going to be as we roll on through the night,” he explained.

But that’s not all; after the 60 seconds promotion there will be an additional special price gasoline sale continuing. “During the other periods of time there will be a major gas sale which discounts the gas price to a meaningful discount that you can be a part of for the rest of that period... it saves to full up.”

To facilitate this promotion Mr Sylvester said that the station will be closed at 11:00pm and reopened after preparations are complete.

He said that the happy hour is going to continue and customers will be alerted via Digicel. “It’s going to be more wicked than last week but there will be some restrictions that are going to be applied. However the test is going to come out on mid-day, Thursday of this week, it’s not going to be Friday.”

Those promotions were launched with much pomp and ceremony on Monday July 28, 2014 at Delta Petroleum’s Pasea gas station in the presence of the media, Delta staff and the public through the loud promotional public address system.

The management had also instituted a promotional treat for the employees of the company who according to Mr Sylvester can earn themselves $500 for each suggestion that is instituted by the company as a recommendation from any given employee.

“Remember for the past prices dictated a lot but now ideas run the world, once you have a good idea that can take you many places or throughout a challenge. Any idea that you send to us and we accept and embrace we give you $500,” Mr Sylvester told his employees.

Bevis, I have watched you take that little gas station they call Delta and turn it into the #1 on the island. You are a great leader and a hard worker. Watching you in action I can honestly say that Delta gets 150% from you day in day night, you must have a lot of shares in that company for how you always on the go. Whether people like you are not, one thing I know is that they consider you a great role model for accomplishments. Well done and keep your head up high, a lot of people out there admire you. Just last week a colleague of mine changed his service provider and came over to Delta because he said you invest in the local people and local activities.

I agree with the writer. We tend to only remember the negatives about people and never give credit where credit due. Sylvester has guts, he fight for what he believe in, in a bat of an eye he would Sue the Queen of England if he had to, , lol. Guts and courage is what is missing in our young people today, he should perhaps be mentoring our young people rather than giving Delta all his blood. Sweat and tears. If I had a business I would hire him pronto
