CAPOON'S BAY, Tortola, VI - Due to the adverse weather conditions being experienced across the Virgin Islands, the organisers of the Youth Mini Meet to have been held on Capoons Bay tonight August 22, 2014 have postponed the event.

A new date will be set once organisers have discussed possibilities with the First District Committee and communicated to the Public.

"It is with much regret we have come to this sensible decision," commented Steve Augustine, Vice President of the BVI Athletic Association (BVIAA).

"We are very keen to showcase the athletic talent of the First District and will do so at the earliest opportunity, so that the youngsters, who worked hard during the Summer Camp, can have the Meet and display their new skills,” said Augustine.

“We are thankful for the continued support of Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), all the family, friends and fans who have been out to the field and hope that they all understand the postponement and will come out in great numbers when the weather finally allows us to host the event,” he said.

1st District Youth Athletic Camp a Success - Hon Andrew A. Fahie

-says he is optimistic for the future of VI Athletics

CAPOON’S BAY, Tortola, VI – First District Representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said that he is very optimistic about the future of athletics in the Virgin Islands from what he has witnessed during the First District Athletic Camp which continues to nurture young talent.

Speaking with this news site today August 21, 2014, Hon Fahie said that the camp, sponsored by himself as District Representative and organized by the athletic club of Mr Steve Augustine and Ms Delva Thomas, has been a success.

He said the pair of trainers has been doing a terrific job together with the parents and everyone chipping in make this year’s camp the success that it is.

“The camp, which concludes tomorrow August 22, 2014, is an excellent one…we continue to encourage our children not only with track and field but also we continue to encourage our children everyday to never give up, especially with the new school year coming no matter with difficulty they have,” he said.

He said that the end of the camp is tomorrow Friday August 22, 2014 and a small fee of $3.00 is expected for entry to the closing ceremony and games, which will feature a lot of races and demonstration of their skills at the Capoon’s Bay field at 5:00 pm.

“Numerous young people have come to the camp and they continue to do extremely well…they have a lot of fun and they are able to develop extremely well during this camp under the guidance of Mr Steve Augustine and Ms Delva Thomas,” he said.

“I want to thank that athletic club for their annual support in this. We work on it together; they do it in collaboration with the District Representative and the young people are just having fun,” he said.

The First District Committee under Hon Fahie continues to sponsor many events annually for young people in the First District for years. “And this year is no different as we have continued with our basketball camp and we continue to have young people registered with the Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) and they are transported to that programme every day,” he said.

He said that the motivational sessions for young people are also coming up.

“We also participated in the West End Community Centre Back to School Fair…so we’ve continued to be busy this summer in imparting positive things in the lives of our young people,” said Hon Fahie.

I just wish for once someone here in Tortola would do something that was from the heart and not a photo opportunity. It's getting old watching these guys rollout the camera for everything. Whatever happened to being humble and being the behind-the-scenes person that doesn't take all the credit. It seems like all people here especially the politicians just want to exploit the children for a photo opportunity. all the sudden around election time everyone is trying to do all these things for the children but what happened the last 3 years regardless of party affiliation

Normally I would agree with you but not in this case & not for this politician. We in the 1st district have to force him to do publicity on the many things he does in the community. Fahie does alot for the community from the heart & he has been doing so for many years. NOT JUST ELECTION TIME LIKE OTHERS! Anyone from the First District who is an honest person can atest to this as the truth whether they like Fahie or not.

Whether you like Fahie or not you must admitt that he is consistent with doing youth activities in his first district & even outside his district for years. I am not a fan of his but I respect him for his consistency with helping the youths & communities over the years in many areas especially with the youth.

Congrats to all. I didn't vote for Fahie last elections but whether popular or not I will be votings for him next elections. Despite my dislike for some of the positions he takes his heart is pure & he has proven to me that he cares beyond political recognition. Good job all involved. I will be there.

Fahie is the real deal when it comes to a man that cares. I live in the USA but grew up in the First District with Fahie coaching our basketball & baseball team & being a positive influence on us all. I cheerish the many valuable lessons he taught me back then that I teach to my children now. If it wasn't for him years ago with his positive guidance then I would have been a disaster. Glad to see that he is still involved with the youth & the community. He is the real deal. Congrats to all from the USA.
