UPDATE: 18 illegal immigrants detained

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police are now assisting immigration with the detention of some 18 illegal immigrants after Police apprehended them on Marina Cay, just northeast of Tortola, said a press release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force this afternoon April 29, 2016.

Of the 18, three are females. Two are believed to be nationals of St Maarten and the other are Haitian nationals. One of the 18 is being treated at Peebles Hospital.

The captain and crew of the boat are believed to be among those detained.

The boat, which had landed on the Cay, was at the time taking on water when Police arrived.

Investigations are ongoing in the matter.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Information and Press Officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Diane Drayton has confirmed that a number of persons have been held after they were believed to have entered the territory illegally.

“I cannot confirm a number but I can say that Police have detained several persons believed to be illegal immigrants yesterday afternoon [April 28, 2016],” she said upon this news site’s inquiries.

Drayton said she should have more information on the matter later today April 29, 2016.

According to reports, a number of persons believed to be Haitians were held in waters off the eastern end of Tortola.

We will bring you more information as it becomes available.

    If were caught in the waters off west end why not just chase them over st John and let the US deal with the cost of these illegal immigrants who are trying to get there. Why do we always end up with the problem of feeding clothing putting them up and sending them back home remember we already have our government overspending we don't need to end up like Puerto Rico millions in debt

    Don't worry they will be excused and released in the population (against the law). Because the the BVI is the best place to be since it rewards criminal activities and criminals.
