BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - Calling on all Virgin Islanders to get on the bandwagon and fight against injustices faced by people of colour following the George P. Floyd Jr killing in the USA, ZBVI 780am radio Moderator, Claude O. Skelton-Cline said closer to home, the United Kingdom and Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert have their 'knees on VI's collective neck.'

"Every time the United Kingdom uses its cohesive powers, that's a knee on our collective neck. Every time the United Kingdom threatens us or gives us an ultimatum, that's a knee on our collective necks," he said on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Skelton-Cline on his radio talk show pointed to issues such as British Overseas Territories (OTs) being forced to sign the Protocols for Effective Financial Management, "that's a knee on our necks," he said.

In addition, he said imperial UK legislation such as ones that affect VI's financial services sector; that can also undermine the economy, are all oppressive strategies of institutional racism to suppress the people of the Territory.

RDA 'a knee on our necks' - Skelton-Cline

Skelton-Cline further pointed out the establishment of the VI Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) as all oppressive institutions in the VI.

"Every time in this recent history where this Governor overrides the Public Service Commission and their recommendations to honour the requests of the newly elected government for their own PS's," he said that is a knee on VI's collective neck.

"Right now the United Kingdom has been non-responsive to the petition of our elected government regarding these same financial protocols, that's a knee on our necks."

Premier can't breathe - Skelton-Cline

The man of the cloth said it is not just George Floyd who couldn't breathe, "we can't breathe our Premier [Andrew A. Fahie (R1)] cannot breathe because we have a Governor with has knees on our necks."

He said the current and previous Governor's alleged interference into the local politics of the democratically elected government are all 'knees on VI's collective necks' while calling on the UK to decolonise the Territory with urgency.

"We must come together and lend our voices and ask the United Kingdom to take their knees off our necks!" Skelton-Cline charged.

A youth organised local march against racial injustice has since been scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2020, beginning at 2:30 pm at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town and ending at Queen Elizabeth II Park.

At this point I think Skelton cline have something personal against the Governor, maybe jealousy. The trying to get rid of him so bad. The best governor the bvi ever had

I agree with Mr Cline. Since emancipation we haven't been working diligently towards our self determination and we haven't pursued full integration into the UK. We want our cake and to eat it too. What we are left with is a bunch of colonized minds working on behalf of the colonizer.

The Governor does not hate Fahie and his Government. They cannot walk all over him. I wish the Governor time should be extended for the next 4 years. This is one of the best Governors we have had. Fahie and Cline is the ones that hates the Governor. I would agree, they are intimidated by the Governor. You get what you keep digging for, keep messing with your bread and butter that is coming from the UK. You will end up worst than HAITI.

100%. Not only is he jealous of the Governor, he is intimidated by the Governor. This Governor is not a push over that you scoundrels, I was born here, I set my own rules, and do as I please people. If that is the case, then sever your ties with the UK.

Skelton Cline is prepared to use the tragic death of a man in the US to make a cheap point in the BVI. There can be no comparison between the police office killing the man by kneeling on his neck, and the UK Government using is lawful powers to stop Skelton Cline running wild with his Government paid Consultancies. It is unbelievable that he does not understand this, and that he is prepared to be talk such rubbish. The man craves publicity and seems to beiprepared to say anything to get it. Time for him to stop of foolishness and stupidness and close his mouth.

No one is choking anyone. Choose to go independent and you have no governor, no protocols, and owe nothing to anyone.

Of course you have no one to help in a crisis, no one keeping an eye on crooked politicians, etc.

The death of a black man George Floyd in the United States of America, has sparked protests against Systematic Racism in the said Country and around the world. We watched in horror as Mr. Floyd died at the hands of a white Police Officer who knelt on his neck for about 9 minutes as he uttered the words " I cant breathe" words that were uttered before, by other black men before they died at the hands of white Police Officers. These words and the "knee to the neck" have become key symbols to these protest. It is some one disturbing though, when these symbols are being used to give fuel to other person's personal ego and "fights". That is certainly not the intent.

Why are we allowing this rude and disrespectful culture to permeate into our society? Does it speak well of us? Can this really be a leader of the flock and someone charged with steering our young people in the right direction? Is the loud messenger representative of our people and our culture?

Why can’t someone bell this cat?

Wait! One final question ... when will all this nonsense stop?

I am soo shame of him. His conduct is not pleasing at all. Mr. Skelton, you have change the behavior of our yours since election. It is now over and you are choking us with your knees. Please for heaven sake if you are a man of cloth decease. Go into the highways and byways and do what you are come on this earth to do. "Win the lost". Many of us are suffering and we need to hear God's word. We are on the blocks waiting. Drugs and Woman don't do it. So many of us "youths" are are dying with lost souls. Can't you see it. It is time to leave the politicking and focus on God and he will guide you into putting our country back to what we have. Where were you with the premier to pray for the deliverance of the virus on the shut down? What you need to do is to go on your knees daily interceding for the government and us for a better way forward. It just seems that things getting worst in our country after all that prayers. Did we sincerely pray for repentance or it was just lip service? Please let us get our house in order. (Anger and hatred, let forgive and get ready for his return.

Prayer changes things and I am going to do that.

Let us go into our closets and sincerely prayer for the BVI. We hand two warnings. Flood and Hurricane.>

The VI local self-governing status is a sham and unequal with the crown dependencies of Jersey, Isle of Man and Guernsey. The VI needs self-governing also by right, not grant. The VI and other OTs are saddle with Economic Benefits, and Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act whereas the Crown colonies are not. Why? The VI needs relief from PEFM. The UK, a nation whose economy was built from the sweat, blood and tears of Slave labour, thumb its nose at local workers impacted by Covid-19. It adopted the attitude of Queen Marie Antoinette, ‘let them eat cake.’ Lying in one the most disaster-prone areas and vulnerable regions of the world, it wanted the government to deplete its contingency fund. And forced the VI to disturb the stability of the social security trust fund.

In 2017 few months before Irma there was a lot of talk about self-governance and even independence. Then the hurricane came and we all remember it and the aftermath with looting and no local government presence on the streets for more than 2 days. It was the UK Army and help that prevented BVI to be what New Orleans after Katrina was or Abaco Island of Bahamas was last year.
It was super-necessary to set RDA the way it was set, otherwise you would have had more "$millon walls".
Please Pastor, stop this race baiting talk. Bite your tongue now and not in 2 months time when is the peak of hurricane season. Fighting racism and xenophobia-discrimination and hostility towards foreigners, should have been an ongoing and constant worldwide approach. Playing race card is not only playing, it is pathetic.
