ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are investigating two robberies reported over the weekend where firearms were used to either injure or threaten victims.

On Friday, September 27, 2013 around 9 P.M., a man was approached from behind by two masked men while outside Wesley Penn’s Bar in East End and struck to the head with what he believed to be a gun. As he fell to the ground, his cellular phone and wallet containing cash were taken from him. Both offenders then fled the scene.

The victim received minor injuries to his head.

In another incident just after 10 P.M. last night (Sunday), a lone driver in the Sophie Bay area, heading toward Road Town, noticed a scooter tailgating him. Soon after he heard an explosion at the rear of his vehicle and pulled over to check his tire. He was then approached by two males, one on a scooter and the other in a vehicle. One pointed a gun at him and demanded his money. After receiving the cash, the perpetrators both fled the scene in different directions.

Two bullets were found in the vehicle and two spent shells at the scene, however the driver was uninjured.

Police are reminding the public to pay keen attention to surroundings when entering or leaving places of business or entertainment particularly at night.

Police are asking for witnesses to either of these incidences or information that could assist in identifying these perpetrators. Persons with information can contact any officer with the Criminal Investigations Unit through the RVIPF access number 311 or give this information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 800-8477.
