Two men charged in burglaries of separate Main Street eateries

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police charged a man after he was identified and later admitted to breaking into a Main Street Restaurant a little over a week ago.

James Leonard Jr., 18, of Cooper Islands, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (27 January) and pleaded guilty on charges of burglary and criminal damage. He was remanded for sentencing on April 8.

Police also charged a 19-year-old male for burglarizing another Main Street restaurant and for attempting to illegally enter a jewellery store nearby twice in late December of 2015.

The 19-year-old admitted to the charges of burglary, attempted burglary and criminal damage and was granted police bail in the sum of $5,000 signed surety for his appearance before the Magistrate’s Court on a date to be scheduled.

Acting Commissioner of Police Alwin James noted that officers continue to keep the pressure on to maintain the record low in the number of reported burglaries Territory wide. He commended his officers for their diligence.
