ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - There will be discussions over the memorability of this Wendoll Williams Cup Final success, but the VG Ballstarz unquestionably made this a match to forget for the Panthers, with their speed, skill and vision scoring four unanswered goals and handing Coach Vincent Samuel a historic Cup double on Sunday October 16, 2011.
The contest provided true corroboration of “Nabo’s” claim that he has a young team that will flourish in a couple of years, and the players certainly responded, establishing their superiority with a flourish.

The Ballstarz opened the scoring in the 1st minute through Collister Fahie, who was first to react to finish a flowing move that sliced through the Panthers’ defense.

“It was quick, it was crazy, I just knocked it in,” said Fahie The Ballstarz doubled the lead on 4 minutes with Wakendell Junior Lawrensen heading home powerfully from a corner taken from the Panthers left hand side.

They then had to cope with some short-lived vivacity from the opposition before scoring their third on 27 minutes through Golden Boot winner Carlos Septus.

A long ball, splitting the Panthers defense and Septus beating the keeper, to the bouncing ball, to flick it home.

“It feels real good to win. We won as a team and I thank God for that. I made the run and was very happy to get a touch on the ball,” commented Septus.

Reaching half time without further scoring, the Panthers had it all to do with coach Mark Hall ringing the tactical changes.

“It's a bitter pill to swallow, we were expecting to win this game, and they played really well and caught us off guard. The changes we made worked in the second half, but we didn’t put away our chances,” said Hall.

The second half was a much more even affair with both teams battling away in midfield and creating half chances. Then on 71 minutes referee Eldon Williams awarded a free kick against the Panthers for a back pass to the keeper and up stepped Septus to drill home his second and the Ballstarz 4th.

Coach Samuel was full of praise for his team as the final whistle blew. ”Wonderful,” he exclaimed. “I’m happy for the youngsters, it’s all about them, they did the hard work and today it’s all paid off.”

The team won’t be allowed to celebrate for long or rest on their “Cup Laurels”.

“We have a number of players from St Thomas and as far as the VI is concerned they are from our sister team. We are taking a joint team over to Nevis and taking part in a tournament. We are looking forward to the league as well, a knock out Cup victory is great, but you need luck on your side, a league will give us the opportunity to show our consistency over a longer period of time,” Coach Samuel said.
