ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Information Office reports that, just before 4 A.M. today, June 14, 2013, Officers on routine patrol noticed a vehicle being driven erratically in the Road Town area. The vehicle appeared to make an unlawful turn and subsequently made off when signaled to stop by the Officers.

A brief pursuit ensued, with the offending vehicle unsuccessfully attempting to evade capture. Once the vehicle was stopped - in the vicinity of Pasea Estate, near to Delta Petroleum - the two male occupants were found to have been in possession of an unlicensed handgun and ammunition.

Two men, one aged 24 from Botanic Station, and the other aged 26, from Sea Cows Bay, were arrested and presently remain in custody.

The weapon has been identified as a Glock.45 calibre semi-automatic handgun, with nine rounds of ammunition. Police are continuing their enquiries, examining the weapon, carrying out property searches and interviewing the alleged offenders.

Acting Commissioner Alwyn James is reported as stating: “This is an excellent arrest and an example of good police work on the part of the officers involved. One more illegal firearm is off the streets and two suspects are in custody. I praise the Officers, who acted with no regard for their own safety. You can be assured that the RVIPF will not cease in efforts to remove all illegal firearms from the community”.

Persons with any information regarding this matter are requested to contact the RVIPF non-emergency number 311, or – in complete and guaranteed anonymity – Crimestoppers on  800 8477

what exactly makes a firearm in BVI legal or illegal? some people have been charged as criiminals for
even having a gun at home for home protection, while mean time, a few gangster types walked into a bar
and killed someone, and left. is it against the law to even have one of these type weapons at all, or is it
that only criminals or people of wrongful intent may have guns, under BVI or British overide laws? Could
someone in the media clarify that for everyone?
