ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Putting yourself last and others first is one thing that many people fail to master, even up to the day of their death bed, 12-year old Kendal Davis of the First Impression Primary School, proved many wrong by refusing gifts for his birthday, asking for monetary contribution from his guests and donating it to charity.

On May 7, 2012, Davis, a 6th grade student, donated $866 to the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre.

Davis along with his class mates personally handed the money over to the school where Mr. and Ms. Eslyn Henley Learning Centre, Ms. Tasha Isles and Mr. Devion Joseph, accepted on behalf of their school.

Along with the monetary donation, students of the learning centre were also treated to cupcakes.

Acting Principal of the Eslyn Henley Learning Centre, Mrs. Vansittart Huggins said such a gesture was a very kind thing for a child to do.

“It shows me he has entrepreneurial skills in mind, he is building a positive future for himself and at the same time being a child one can see he is not selfish and has a humanitarian spirit which I applaud.”

Mrs. Huggins stated that to fulfill the role of the school, which is to prepare the students of the Learning Centre to properly fit into society, the money will be going towards the construction of a Sewing and Cosmetology Centre.

“If we give our students the basic but much needed skills, they would be able to fit into society and make a living for themselves and be independent.”

In expressing thanks to Davis, Ms. Huggins said, “I applaud Kendal’s ability to look beyond himself and think about others, this gesture shows that he is a humanitarian, and the values his parents instilled in him tells me that training a child is very important, he is a positive adult in the making, and being a positive adult starts from actions done as a child.”

The young student was accompanied by his parents, Judie and Sean Auguste.

Following the presentation, students of the First Impression 6th grade class challenged the students of the learning centre to a game of basketball.
