PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago - Citizens of Trinidad & Tobago will head to the polls on August 10, 2020, to elect a new government, Prime Minister Dr Keith C. Rowley has announced.

Speaking at the 35th sitting of the House of Representatives yesterday, July 3, 2020, Rowley said, "I have advised her Excellency the President to dissolve the parliament at midnight tonight as per our constitution. Nomination day would be Friday 17th of July and polling day would be August 10th 2020.”

This gives political parties 38 days for campaigning after the ruling People's National Movement (PNM) on Thursday, July 2, 2020, finalised its slate of candidates for all 41 constituencies.

The Opposition United National Congress (UNC) will also be contesting 39 of the seats and has selected 17 candidates so far.

Minutes after the announcement, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the UNC is ready for the August 10 general election and will present its full-slate of candidates on Sunday.

She said they remain excited but not anxious, noting that an August date was likely to facilitate Parliament’s debate on the T&T budget in September.

I agree you should be kept in your ignorant, polluted bubble. As if you have anything on the island of T&T or its people. Stay perpetually dense on your rock.

@Hmmmm. How is Trinidad and Tobago Police Service out of control? What do you know about Trinidad and Tobago? Or are you a Trinbagonian who is one of the lawless types, constantly wrongdoing but mysteriously getting a moral compass when the police try to do their jobs right?

While it's a fact that there are corrupted members in the national security apparatus of the country, I'm totally bemused that you haven't called out the terrorist elements that plague Trinidad and Tobago society.

Also, I hope that when you encounter a problem that your solution would be to call the gang leaders for assistance because the police are definitely a "problem".

The gall of some of you commentators at times.
