ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - T’Shonda Dore, a high school student of the Virgin Islands, has left these shores for the United States of America (USA) to undergo corrective surgery to her spine, thanks to the many persons who donated financially and otherwise to help give her a chance at a comfortable and pain-free life.

T’Shonda suffers from scoliosis (curvature in the spine) which has been threatening to damage one of her lungs if surgery is not done soon. Here in the VI she was only treated with pain killers by the local Peebles Hospital because of the hospital’s limitations.

Her family had turned to the public to help them raise the needed $79,000 to have the surgery done but up to sometime last week when she had to be whisked off to the USA the family was nowhere close to having the required amount of money but they had to move or they risked losing her or seeing her permanently paralysed and with severe damages to at least one of her lungs.

“We had to rush her out because she was getting worse,” a parent told this news site yesterday October 6, 2015.

Shriners Hospital shows compassion

According to information related to Virgin Islands News Online, the child was taken to Shriners Hospital for Children in the USA and with not even most of the cash they needed. The foreign hospital was reportedly moved with compassion and waivered the cost for the surgery to help save T’Shonda.

The Shriners Hospital for Children treats young patients with chronic and congenital bone disorders and is a world leader in the treatment of brittle bone disease, scoliosis, club feet, leg length discrepancies and many other rare bone conditions.

“We still have to pay all the other expenses for hospitalisation, medication and therapy, not to mention accommodation and everything else,” related her Father Mr Alvin Dore aka DeeJay Turbo.

“We are pleading for whatever further assistance we can get, we really don’t have it. We took the risk of sending her for the surgery because things had gotten worse for her. She wasn’t even able to attend school, that bad, lots of pain, lots of pain,” said the emotional father.

In the breath of extending heartfelt gratitude to all the persons who came forwarded and donated, “Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, to everyone if I could find a bigger and better word than thanks I would use it but all I can say is a million thanks to everyone and if there are any others who can give to help us, help our child please, please do so.”

Mr Dore also said most persons came forward to help after the last publication was put online by this news site.

“VINO, I want you to publish my gratitude to you. It was right as you guys pushed the story about my daughter that most of the people who gave, came forward and while we are still in need of help, you guys don’t know what a big thing you did for our little girl, thank you VINO for pursuing this story,” said Mr Dore.

The father of the child made the desperate plea to the public on August 31, 2015, as he had said it was hurting deep for the family to see the child suffering so much.

If NHI was in place she would have been referred to the necessary specialist overseas ages ago to get her operation done. Don't be such a damn fool, you actually contradicting yourself. This is not a good example for being against NHI dunce.

I deeply care and for that reason I initiated a massive fundraising to cover the hotel and meds..the hospital is free for everyone who is admitted to have surgery..The many people who helped with this fund are angels and I most grateful for their immediate donations...thank you and ..she is doing really well, lots of pain, but in her room after the seven hour surgery, as it was a complex and difficult case...Her Mother and I talk and all is going very well..More donations will help in many ways, so thanks for future donations by multiple organizations and individuals...sincerely, me.

Well their country of origin which is always better than the bvi to hear the ungrateful_ would have given them everything with open arms. Doubt if they even got a copper tocent.
Why go begging in foreign lands...
NHI would bear the cost but the uninformed rhetoric continues_Anything that would make Black folks stand on their own two feet is a problem to the enslaved.

Do you all realize that the Shriners Hospital is owned and managed by Shriners which is a direct affiliate to the Freemason, the same Freemasons that are supposed devil worshippers and in closer research to become a Shriner you have to be a Freemason first... I just hope everyone realizes that they're not bad people before it's too late.
