Tropical wave to affect VI

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A Vigorous Tropical Wave located near 12.0N, 60.5W, is currently moving to the west at 16 mph producing scattered thunderstorm activity across the Lesser Antilles and Eastern Caribbean today, July 28, 2019.

This wave is expected to move to the west-northwest, bringing it close to the west of Puerto Rico by Monday and across Hispaniola and eastern Cuba Tuesday and Wednesday.

As the system covers a large area, some of the showers and thunderstorms have the potential to affect the [British] Virgin Islands.

The system currently has a low chance of development (10%) over the next 48 hours. Residents are encouraged monitor the weather conditions in the event further updates are necessary.

Persons at home and abroad are encouraged to download the DDM’s Alert app in the Apple App store or Google Play store to receive updates of any hazards affecting the Territory.
