ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The government of Antigua has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the [British] Virgin Islands (VI), according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in an update around 11:25 pm, Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within 24 hours.

According to the DDM, the Virgin Islands can possibly experience tropical storm conditions on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

It said rainfall estimates in the range of 1 – 3 inches with isolated amounts of 4 inches are possible in some areas.

Slow strengthening expected during next 24hrs

According to DDM, at 11:00 pm, the centre of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 63.0 West. It said Dorian is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.

“On the forecast track, the center of Dorian will move across the northeastern Caribbean Sea overnight, pass over or near Puerto Rico on Wednesday, and move near or just east of eastern Hispaniola Wednesday night. Dorian is forecast to move near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas on Thursday night, and near or to the east of the central Bahamas on Friday.”

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday. “Some weakening is expected after Dorian moves across the higher terrain of Puerto Rico. Dorian is expected to gradually re-strengthen on Thursday and Friday while passing near or to the east of the Turks and Caicos and southeastern and central Bahamas,” DDM stated.

It added that tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the centre and the minimum central pressure reported by the Hurricane Hunter aircraft is 1006 mb.

It’s not DDM’s fault those national weather services to me don’t care about the accuracy of the data they provide until the storm starts getting closer to the US mainland. They were posting on NHC, weather underground for the past two days that the storm was moving west north west. When in actuality after it passed Barbados anyone who atttended BVI high school could plot and see it was moving North west to with jogs north north west. I posted that and that it would pass on the eastern end of Puerto Rico over Vieques island and had morons telling me how I feel I am right verses those big organizations. Bigger does not mean you are better just like in athletics we small countries are shining. There are a lot of things we are better at than those so called BIG countries. One is charting storms.....

And THAT, my Dear Hmmmm, is why the Govenor was urging everybody to be prepared and not be complacent about this storm. Because storms can be tricksters!

Hmmm; this is not a fair statement to make. I was monitoring this storm since a depression. I was not waiting on DDM or anyone else to tell me this and that. You could have done the same. We always want to be spoon fed like babies. How about getting off milk and on to solid food. Can’t please everyone, DDM did a good job in keeping us informed.
