Tropical storm Nadine in the Atlantic, strengthening expected

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Department of Disaster Management has been monitoring Tropical Storm Nadine located in the North East Atlantic.

As of the 5PM Forecast the center of Tropical Storm Nadine was located near latitude 24.0 north longitude 53.0 west or 765 miles North East of the Leeward Islands.  Nadine is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph and a turn toward the north-northwest is expected tonight.  Nadine is forecast to turn toward the north on Friday and toward the north-northeast by early Saturday. 

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph with higher gusts.  Some strengthening is expected during the next day or so and Nadine could become a hurricane later today. 

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 230 miles from the center. Estimated minimum central pressure is 990 MB. 

Based on the present forecast the VI will not be affected by Nadine, however the DDM will continue to monitor the system until it dissipates.  Please visit the DDM’s website at www.bviddm.com and subscribe for future updates.
