PROSPECT REEF, Tortola, VI – Less than a month after being spared prison sentence as he was fined $45k for possession of 295.5 grams of marijuana, Treston Brown was back in court on Friday October 31, 2014 for lesser charges.

This time he was placed before the court for the use of cellphone without the aid of a hands free device and at the same time not wearing a seat belt on May 9, 2014 in Road Town.

When he appeared before Magistrate Dr. Velon L. John he pleaded guilty to the charges. But when asked if he had anything to say before the Magistrate made his decision, Brown told the court that he had asked the female traffic officer for leniency. “I asked her to work with me and she agree to give me a break,” he told the court.

He said that the officer agreed to work with him and did not give him a ticket but subsequently received a summon days before Friday last instructing him to appear in court for the offenses.

“But are you guilty?” asked the Magistrate to which Brown responded, “Yes” and he was fined $200 for each offense to be paid immediately or he would have to spend seven days in prison.

im sorry this had to happen, cellphone while driving and no seatbelt. Though its the law, they have NO PROOF against you for these type of crimes. i would plea innocent and win EVERYTIME. Anybody can see anything, your hand coulda been on your cheek, the officer's vision could be brought into question etc, etc...

@Real It's careless drivers like yourself that put others and yourself at risk. Just do the right thing!!!! It isn't brain surgery to put on a seat belt and either get a hands free device or pull over to take a phone call. I have little tolerance for such simple things that should be like brushing teeth, I actually know of an individual who died due to someone who was talking on their phone while driving and became distracted for a millisecond and that's all it took to take my friend's life. Heaven forbid that happens here. Just buckle up and use your phones responsibly. Stop finding excuses for being wrong! I applaud Mr. Brown for being honest!
