Magistrate Baptiste-DaBreo outlined the extent of the offense for which he was found guilty during which time she noted that it could carry a three year prison time in addition to a fine. He was found guilty for possession of 295.5 grams of marijuana.
He was however ordered to have his travel documents lodged at the Road Town Police Station until such time as he would have paid the fine in full. He has until February 28, 2015 to fully pay the fine otherwise serve 18 months in prison.
Should he have to serve the time his travel documents are not to be released to him until the prison time is served in full.
On January 3, 2013 when police officers had visited Brown’s home at Belmont on a warrant to search for stolen electrical items the drugs were found in his bedroom closet in a Timberland shoe-box.
His girlfriend was in the home at the time but didn’t respond to questioning by the police officers. Brown was the one to respond telling them that it was his but they were useless at the time as he had forgotten them there for a very long time.
Another quantity of the illegal substance also found in another location in the house which Brown again owned up to, saying that portion was for his personal use. Then a further search unearthed another quantity concealed in a vase which was in the kitchen.
Police had also alleged that they had found ammunition at Brown’s home during the same day of the marijuana find but that charge was dismissed by Magistrate Dr Velon L. John earlier during the trial. This was as a result of Magistrate John’s finding that that the charge was laid under the Explosives Act as opposed to being under the Firearms Act.
