ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “A lot of people judge where they are by the bathrooms and I’ve got to tell you, you’ve got the Rolls Royce of bathrooms right there in the Pier Park.”

This was according to Russell S. Daya, Executive Director of Marine and Port Operations, Port Development and Itinerary Planning for Disney Fantasy Cruise Line at a press conference on May 14, 2018, at the Moorings Conference room.

Mr Daya, along with other cruise line representatives, visited the territory to assess the territory on its readiness to accept the cruise ships.

He continued, “I’d even go as far as to say Bentley as well… I’ve got to tell you, you’ve knocked it out the park for the number-one bathrooms in the Caribbean.”

He further commended the staff of the Tortola Pier Park on their friendly service and considered it as one of the best in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, as the audience applauded Mr Daya’s statement, Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), Minister for Communications and Works interjected, and said humourously, “That’s where the overspending went.”

“TTP is the most important areas” - Christine Manjencic

Sharing the same sentiments with Mr Daya, Michelle M. Moraga, another representative for Disney Fantasy cruise line, mentioned that the cruise ship passengers are “satisfied” with the port, while adding that before hurricane Irma, the VI had top 10 ratings with Disney Cruise Line.

She explained, “Our guests are very satisfied with your port. It’s compared to the ones in Europe that have had one of the top ratings, and that is something you should be very proud of as an island, honestly. Also, before hurricane Irma, the BVI was top 10 with Disney Cruise Line.”

Christine Manjencic, Vice President of Destination Service Operations with Norwegian Cruise Line, emphasised that the Tortola Pier Park (TTP) is “one of the most important areas” because it is the first place that a cruise ship passenger disembark once they arrive in the VI, while adding that the interactions with the staff set the mood for the passenger for the rest of the day as they tour the island.

“Keep up that spirit that you are known for because that is going to set the bar for the tourist for the rest of the day. Also, before hurricane Irma, the BVI was a five-star designation.”

Disney Fantasy Cruise Line did not give a specific date on when they will return to the shores of the VI; however, Norwegian Cruise Line stated that they are looking to come back around October.

Thank you Premier for realizing the importance cruise tourism and its continued infrastructural development to the financial viability of these islands.

For those who criticized about Pier Park's inportance will have now realized that with Financial Services on its death bed, tourism will now become the territory's lifeline on which we must depend!

Thank you again Premier, for your continued vision in the very aspects of sound economies to improve our lives!

So what? Tortola has terrible roads, 60%+ homes without roofs, Disney is not committing to returning to Tortola. Where's the $$? When is the Government going to help people to rebuild? Where are the loans to help us?
