NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- An American tourist opposed to the mandatory quarantine and testing protocols in the Virgin Islands has reportedly lodged a complaint to the US Embassy, alleging their rights were infringed upon.

This was revealed by Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Honourable Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) during a community meeting held by Government on Virgin Gorda on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Hon Flax-Charles was at the time urging residents, especially in the Virgin Gorda communities, to not be afraid to insist that tourists wear their masks where and when required.

According to Hon Flax-Charles, at least one tourist has reported the VI Government to the US Embassy, claiming the territory’s mandatory quarantine for tourists infringed upon their rights.

"And that is not right. We need to make sure that we stay safe, healthy and alive," Hon Flax-Charles stated, as she reminded that the world is still in a pandemic because of COVID-19 and that it remains very important for everyone to strictly follow the protocols set out by the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Ministry of Health.

‘Keep the tourists in line’

"Yes we are a service industry, Virgin Gorda is mainly tourism, but you have to keep the tourists in line and make sure that they, as all residents, follow the protocols. Do not be afraid to say to a visitor that you see not wearing a mask in public, you have to tell them, it makes a big difference…

"We have to make sure that they do it. There are lots of them that are very wealthy and feel that we cannot tell them what to do, but we have to tell them what to do because that can cause our death," Hon Flax-Charles reasoned.

It is unclear which US Embassy the tourist allegedly made the report to. There is no US embassy in the Virgin Islands.

This matter is too serious for a junior minister to be dealing with,, Where is the Premier and the minister of health,!! She has a choice, she knows The protocols before she comes, she could have stayed home or go somewhere else,,,,,But because the complain is made at such high level, it needs a high level person handling it,,,,

This BS ain't serious at all. US has no jurisdiction here. Tell Karen to go on home - we shouldn't even have a junior minister entertaining this BS - there is nothing to see her.

Karens such as these need to be exposed in the press while they are on the World stage. Embarrassment is keY ..and this behavior has nothing to do with money. Ma Flax seems to be not woke not worldly and not up to date. She should be given some required readings.

I tell them all of the time when they come to my establishment to mask up, or they won't be served. Some have the nerve to just yank their Tee shirt over their mouth. I tell them I sell a mask for $1, and they suck their teeth, but guess what, they have no choice and give in. They can take their stupid attitudes back from where they came from. We deserve to live long healthy lives as well as our next generations. If they feel that entitled, let them go elsewhere. I actually see businesses allowing people in their businesses unmasked, just to make a dollar. What good is it of you are dead from their virus?

And if you tell them can they enforce and insist. Can they give them a ticket and put them before the courts. Of course it would be nice if they do. But to say insist is taking your joke a bit to far. Why did you think you had to mention wealth folks. Is that not who you want to spend money. They are tolans as poor as a door mouse and no one can tell them what to do, because them from here. The truth is that we will some realize that BVI belongs to Britian, her Majesty if you please. It do not belong to you. Give some blacks a little power and it goes to their heads. You are an elected official speak like one. Yes I said it.

Alright racist why you don’t go America and spout that crap see how fast you get your job lost or ass kicked.

You don’t have to give black people a thing. They took and took and wanted to continue slavery breeding slaves, importing them through out these lands. we would have taken it all ourselves by the numbers of them brought to these America’s.

There were rebellion after rebellion, mounting numbers of run aways, more guns, eventually white supremacist would have been at the bottom of the ladder right now. Thank your lucky stars you can still look down on black people because some people black and white had visions of non violence.

As an American, I am infuriated at how obtuse some of my countrymen and women can be, in addition to how deliberately ignorant. Sorry to all who suffer because of this. But I do have a question.....WHAT embassy? Barbados? DR? Where?

US visitors from elsewhere need to know and understand that other places have their own laws, cultures and behavioral norms. Plenty of foreigners in foreign jails will vouch for that. What might be OK at home is not necessarily OK abroad. No human rights are been violated when someone is asked to masked up. What we have here clearly is a a display of cultural arrogance, and a total lack of respect, which evidently is OK in the US. If it was up to me, I’d be sending these visitors home on the next plane out, and I’d take the necessary steps to make sure they do not ever return.

Karen does not have her USA rights when in the BVI - she has to abide by the BVI law.... Karen needs to learn about the rest of the world.
