ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Information reaching Virgin Islands News Online is that there was a death on one of the cruise ships in port today, December 02, 2013.

Sources said a tourist died on the vessel outside of Virgin Islands waters but the body was brought to Tortola since it was the nearest port of call.

Efforts to reach Police Information Officer Diane Drayton for confirmation on this report proved futile.

The source declined to release the name of the deceased since it was not clear whether relatives were already informed. The circumstances surrounding the death are also unclear at this time.

This is sad and condolences to the family of this tourist. Don't these cruise liners have morgue on board?

      In a sense, yeah.
However they won't keep it onboard for the duration of the journey.
The next port, which happened to be Tortola, would accept the body into a proper morgue so they can proceed with whatever they have planned from there.

Nobody ain't cruising with a dead body left on a ship, even if it in the hull. Bad vibes, Rasta. Plus it's unsanitary.

I see this sort of thing in my career all the time but it never gets any easier to swallow. My mother just left for a cruise on Sunday and I can't imagine getting a phone call with news like this.

what i can't quite fathom is this...why they had to bring them here and not fly the body back to pr

Like someone else mentioned Ready is Fundamental. They brought the body here because it was the CLOSEST port of call. A cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, how do you suggest the "fly" the body to PR without first getting it to the nearest airport. I swear I really have to wonder of some of you really realise how foolish you sound in these blogs and always have the most to say. RIP to the individual and condolences to the family.
