Top Notch Track club runs in the Fast Lane!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Athletes from the Top Notch and Fast Lane Track Clubs attended and competed in the Reginald Samuel Classic Meet in Antigua over the weekend of May 5-6, 2012 and came home with a litany of outstanding performances.

On the first day of competition, Kiara Huggins and Chelsi Flax Solomon warmed up proceedings with 3rd and 4th placing in the U15 Girls 100m with times of 13.63 and 13.67 respectively. Then Nelda Huggins romped to “gold” in the U17’s in a time of 12.35 seconds with Shamica Glasgow finishing 4th in a time of 13.37.

In the Under 20 Girls, Shaian Vandenburg crossed the line in first place in 12.50 just ahead of team mate Ashphil Robertson. The Girls Open race was comfortably won by Sanya Penn in 11.92.

J’Maal Alexander beat out team mate Brandon Andrew in the U20 male 100m, the athletes running 10.86 and 11.27 respectively.

In the U15 girls 400m, Sh’kida Lavacia claimed second place with her time of 1:02.69 and Kardisha Auguste ran 1:07.25. In the U17 male, Kyron McMaster took the tape with a time of 51.79 and in the U20, Shaquoy Stephens finished first in 49.91, holding of Royce Davis who came second in 50.15.

In the Long jump, Sanya Penn won her second “gold” with a distance of 5.53m and Tarikah Warner took “silver” with 5.16.

On Sunday in the 150m, Zakharia Frett romped home in20.06. U15’s Lavacia and Flax Solomon then came 2nd and 4th respectively in the 200m with times of 27.75 and 28.83 respectively, before Nelda Huggins won the u17’s in just 25.63. Shamica Glasgow finished 2nd in 26.77 and Penn won her third title in the Open race, stopping the clock on 25.08. Vandenburg also claimed her second victory in the U20’s in 25.59 whilst Robertson took “silver” in 31.86.

Not to be outdone, Ashphil’s mom, Philomena Robertson came home with a first place finish in the 1500m with her time of 6:11.03 and a second place run of 14:04 in the 3000m.

In the U17 male 200, McMaster romped home in 23.32.

In other Meets, Sprint Tech took part in the Austin Sealy Classic this past weekend and came home with several strong performances as well.

In the 300m U17 Girls Hurdles, Jonel Lacey and Deya Erickson finished 2nd and 3rd respectively with times of 48.00 and 48.24. L’T’Sha Fahie won the Girls U15 Long Jump with her distance of 4.69m and the Sprint Tech Girls took the u15 4 x 100m relay title in a time of 49.96. They also won the U17 4 x 1 in a time of 48.26. Erickson would later finish 2nd in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.60.

Lakeisha Warner continued her stellar season with victory in the U17 400m in a time of 56.67.

Niayla Smith finished 4th in the Open 400 with a time of 60.13. Samantha John also qualified for the final, but didn’t run. In the 200 Open, John finished 6th in 25.31.Smith returned a time of 2:31.70 in the Open 800 for a 3rd place finish.

Khirey Creque squeezed into the Open Men’s 400 final after 2 of the top 8 qualifiers pulled out and he finished 6th in 51.61. Raheem Taylor had a non advancing 52.30 in the preliminaries. Creque also ran 2:00.71 in the 800 to place 4th.

Taylor Hill won the U17’s 100 with a time of 12.38 having finished fastest qualifier in 12.76. Shamica Glasgow false started in the prelims to be disqualified. Hill would then get the 1 2 double with a winning time of 25.44 followed home by Glasgow in 26.15.

Brandon Andrew failed to move out of the qualifiers in the Open 100, but finished 4th in the 100m Hurdles in 14.92 and 6th in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.33m.

Tashira Edwards won the U11 100m title with her time of 14.50 and made it a double when she ran 30.14 in the 200 to claim the win. Dominique Moses was 4th in the 100 with a time of 15.24 and Alisha Hayde 10th in 16.08. Xaria Penn finished 8th in the 200 with a time of 33.50.

In the U15 Girls 100m, Sprint Tech had 3 finishers in the top 8 with L’T’Sha Fahie, J’Nae Wong and Arianne Hayde, 2nd, 6th and 8th respectively. Their times were 12.81, 13.06 and 13.52. Judine Lacey won the U15 200 in 25.98 with Fahie 3rd and Wong 6th. Their times were 26.25 and 26.68 respectively.

Hayde also had a second place finish in the 200 with her time of 27.25 with Beyonce Defreitas 8th in 28.42.

Over in the Boysm Jelani Norman ran 27.75 to finish 8th in the U13’s.

Alec Chalwell leapt 4.79 m in the U15 Long Jump to place 6th and Dekoya Hodge launched the shot 8.30 to claim 1st place in the u15 shot put. Hodge then finished 2nd in the Javelin with a throw of 23.16m.

In the U15 600, Destiny Samuel finished in 2:05.56 to claim 6th place whilst in the boys U15 800 Valique Graham came home in 3rd with his run of 2:31.76. Under 17 girls Dje’ Moyia Smith and Shenea Richards claimed 2nd and 3rd in their 800m event with times of 2:34.21 and 2:36.10 respectively.

Anique Daniel came home 4th in the U13 400 finishing in 67.17 and Defreitas was 6th in 69.90, whilst Norman was 3rd in the boys with a time of 62.95. Rakeel Jack cam home 5th in 62.47.

Sprint Tech also finished 1 and 2 in the girls 4 x 4 and second in the boys 800 medley and Ashley Marie McCall finished runner up in the Open Heptathlon with 2922 points.

    WOW!! These athletes are burning up the track! Government, invest in these youngsters PLEAAAASE!!! Upgrade our facilities ASAP, look at what this small island producing, imagine when we have better facilities? Next up, football! we got some good young stars involved in that as well.
