EAST END, Tortola, VI – In a continued effort to raise funds for a proper boxing ring and to provide a positive environment outlet for the youths of the Territory to learn discipline and control aggression, the Iron Fist Boxing Gym will be holding a Fight Night, tonight August 23, 2014.

The event, which is being held at the East End Community Centre begins at 7.30pm and involves members of the Gym taking on the challenge from members of the public.

At last week’s event all the challengers got stopped by their more experienced opponents, but as organisers pointed out, those that were defeated, but have actually now joined the Gym.

The Iron Fist Boxing Gym is part of the BVI Boxing Federation.

The programme, now in its second year, has attracted on average a dozen boxers with an upper limit of 20 attending various sessions, including fitness runs and arduous physical work.

Whilst the Boxers are all dedicated and making a difference in their lives without a proper ring they cannot fully understand the art of boxing, which entails knowing the ring, knowing where to be, knowing how close to get to an opponent and indeed, how far.

The program also needs all the equipment it can get, from speedballs, gloves, headgear, jump ropes, pads and weights - 5, 10, 20 pounds.

Tonight promises to be real interesting as one bout involves a winner take all challenge worth a purse of $800 and will see a gym member take on a member of the community.
