Toastmasters to take the lead in First District Youth mentorship
This is according to Honourable Andrew A. Fahie, Representative for the First District, in a press release sent out to the public yesterday November 3, 2015.
“The Toastmasters International Branch BVI has informed that they have approved the proposal I presented to them a few weeks ago to train our First District Youth in different areas of leadership,” said Honourable Fahie in the press release.
“Hence I am proud to now inform the wider public that under the theme: ‘Training the future for the future’ -Toastmasters International, Tortola, BVI Branch will commence a training seminar for one month on Sunday afternoons starting on Sunday 8th November at 6pm at the Leonora Delville Primary School with the first cohort of 20 First District Youth between the ages 15 to 35 years,” the release quotes Honourable Fahie as saying.
According to Honourable Fahie, the young men and women are to be trained in the areas such as but not limited to public speaking, researching, time management and leadership.
“All members of the First District and the wider public are invited to the brief opening ceremony Sunday 8th November, 2015 at 6pm at the Leonora Delville Primary School,” said Honourable Fahie.
This is but another event sponsored by the First District Representative as he continues the mission of preparing the First District Youth, the release said.
It said too that this initiative comes on the heel of the successful First District Youth Career Fair and Job Expo where unemployed First District Youth were given the chance to seek employment with the numerous companies/businesses that participated in the event.
“Some of the youth have already been employed with some others in the process of having interviews etc. It is important that as a community we work hand in glove in assisting our youth and young adults in taking the necessary steps that will allow them to take their rightful place in the BVI society,” he said.
In speaking about the programme in Monday’s November 2, 2015 Sitting of the House of Assembly, Honourable Fahie said that the people of the District have to take their rightful place in the economics of the Virgin Islands in all facets especially in these times, hence the efforts to make them more viable through programmes such as this.
