Toastmasters Club considering Hon Fahie's proposal for youth programme
Honourable Fahie in a press statement on Sunday August 16, 2015 said the initiative will be launched in the First District in the coming weeks and that the details of the training programme are being worked out and will be announced in short order.
"I am so thankful to Toastmasters of Tortola for affording me the opportunity a few days ago to present to them one of my visions to empower our First District Youth, initially as well as all the youth of the Virgin Islands, to develop as leaders but more so to significantly assist them in fulfilling their God given purpose for existing with the expertise of the Toastmasters Club," said Honourable Fahie.
"Our First District Youth will receive training in leadership skills, debating skills, time management skills, development of self-esteem among many other lifelong needed skills."
He said the output from the youth in the future is strongly dependent "on our input" in them today.
"This programme is intended to be a pilot programme that is intended to be shared with all nine districts in the Virgin Islands in the near future," he said.
He thanked President Mr John R. Lewis and the entire Tortola Toastmasters Club Executive and other members for considering this leadership programme where the Club's expertise will be used to assist in the development of future leaders.
However, in a brief comment to this news site, Lewis said the proposal has to be discussed.
"It is to be discussed to the board level and then taken to the Club for consideration. That is the point we're at," said Lewis.
"In other words I can't tell whether it is going to happen or not because it had not been discussed at the club level," he said.
"We will be meeting and once a decision is made will be more than happy to collaborate with the First District Representative," said Lewis.
Honourable Fahie said that he does not intend to compete with the efforts of Government or any other organisation "but rather our efforts will be geared towards completing the mission of moving our Youth from excellence to beyond."

I have been wondering why is it that Mr Fahie was Education minister for so many years and the present Education Minister's government could have such a strong youth arm versus Fahie's non-existent to weak youth presence. Empowering youth seems like it is a NEW agenda for Fahie. It can be said that he is frantically trying to prove a point.
Give Jack his jacket Minister Walwyn and the NDP has a visible youth involvement and presence, the initiative is a good one though. However stop making everything obviously political it somewhat takes away from your credibility and sincerity.
And the saga continues...
