CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI – Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn said that it is time the members of the Festival committees are remunerated for the work they do since a lot goes into preparing for Festival and it is often not appreciated.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony for the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta in Carrot Bay, Tortola, last evening August 7, 2014.

“As I said in East End, the Festival and Fairs Committees and the sub-committees [under it] are perhaps the only board where the persons who are on the executive and other persons who work on Festival are not remunerated in any way at all and it is something that we have to find a way to address,” said Hon Walwyn.

“Not because you must pay for everything, since it is good that people volunteer. But it is a lot of work that goes into Festival and I think sometimes we don’t always appreciate it,” he said.

The Minister also spoke for his love for the cultural fiesta at Carrot Bay and said that it stands out as the trendsetters when it came to keeping the culture of the Virgin Islands alive.

During the opening ceremony fisherman of Carrot Bay Bernardo Leonard was honoured for his contribution to the cultural preservation of the community and his service to it over the years.

If he was a true Virgin Islander he would not speak this way, especially holding publick office. He should be encouraging more people to volunteer. Money is not the answer to everything. Our four bears knew what voluntary was. That is why these islands were so unique. But we have lost that as most of our true virginislanders j have gone to their rest. Some who claim to be virginislanders are just trying to benefit.

Dr. Smith, why don't you just tell this funny man of yours to go and take a seat? He deoesn't have a clue as to what impact this would have on the willing and able members of our community. But this does not surpriise me. If his Ministry could give a Perm Secretary $50,000 dollars to go and do his Docterate, what else wouldn't they do.

Hon. Myron Walwyn thinks the BVI people are foolish. He is trying to win the minds of the innocent people of the territory. one thing I know for sure is that I will not vote for him. The entire territory should be aware of his deception.

in some cases, change is good. However, u need to leave this alone. We have a festival , some volunteer to put some things in place and then everyone comes out to celebrate our freedom. Yes, we know it is a lot of work (we appreciate it). For years we could not pay the people who should be paid on time, it took months before they could see a cheque. Do not make this about money. It was done from the heart. Some things should be free. To volunteer your time should be one of them. Soon, we will be paying for everything. Taking away the meaning of what this time should mean. U are making to many changes to this thing at one time. The changes u have already made, are they working out?

We need to create environments in our homes, schools & churches that enables all to be critical thinkers. We as the parents of BVI's youth, should begin by being independent thinkers ourselves

Mr. Myron if you don't have anything with sense to say 'KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT'!!!! This is utter rubbish you are purporting to do. Please allow people the opportunity to give back to their country based on love not greed. You really have to go. I was on the fence about whether to vote for you but not anymore. You have been a disappointment.

I wonder what will it really take for this man to learn. Every time you open your mouth is rubbish coming out and you just cannot see that you have already placed yourself on the negative side of people mines, so for God sake please hush. Ms. P has warned against making you a minister but they did not hear so now you are making even the dog stomach sick. Desperation is the norm of the day for you. You come to the village where it have thousands and u want to shake every body hands, you placed yourself in the Jouvet, pretending to be part if the people but your heart is far away. MVW how long have you live amongst the people here, how many Jouvet have you partake in. I have been following Jouvet for the past 23 years and it's the first time I have seen you so involve. People please be ware of wolves in sheep attire

Myron is not a leader and is destroying his short politcal carrer. If he had depth he will know this simply isn't sustainable in the long run because resources are finite

Why everything has to be about money? I am 72 years old and have worked on Festival Committees with pleasure. No one ever thought about asking for pay. Come on people we can do something for our country for love, everything don't have to be about money. Myron Walwyn stop the nonsense.
