Thrilling games in BD B’ball 5th District league

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As the BD Basketball 5th District King League continued during the School Easter Break there have been some thrilling games including an astonishing clash between the Celtics and the Bulls, which looked like it would go on all night before ending 10-10.

That game in fact would have gone into triple overtime, but BD Rules do not allow that and a tie was declared by officials.

In other Under 10 Division action the Hawks beat the Spurs 24-23 in another enthralling encounter which saw the Hawks race into a 10-5 first quarter lead before seeing their advantage whittled away over the next three.

Requan Garraway led the Hawks with 15 points and there were 5 for Shamari Maduro. The Spurs top scorer was Keshaun Esprit with 9.

In the U13 Division, District 8 beat District 4, 36-19, mainly thanks to Keneya Penn’s 12 points. Shakoy Henry added 8 and for District 4, Jemoi Levons scored 6.

Also in the U13’s District 9 beat District 6, 50-10 and District 3 beat District 5, 25-19. K’Andre Clarke scoring 10 points, Deondre Penn 6 and Ajai Frett 3. For District 5 J’Quan Bodkin scored 7 and Deschon Hodge 3.

The Girls of Virgin Gorda then beat the Tortola Girls, 16-15, with Keithrece Smith and Joi Ann Thomas both scoring 5 for VG. Shaliqua Fahie scored 13 of Tortola’s 15 points.

Virgin Gorda continued to be dominant back in the U16 League with wins against District 8, 35-23 and District 6, 45-14.

In the first game the team from District 9 was led by top scorer J.Moi Dore who finished with 11 points, Stephon Caul added 8 and Tafari Winchester 5. For District 8 Hakeem Penn scored 10 points with 6 rebounds.

In the win over District 6 Caul recorded a double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Saturday’s last game saw District 5 beat District 3, 47-28 on the back of 12 points from Noel Maxwell, whilst Akeem Nibbs had 10 for District 3.

On Monday action moved to the gym at Belle Vue and saw two wins for District 8, firstly 26-21 against District 6 in the U13 Division and then against 46-30 against the same opposition in the U16’s. In the opening encounter Donaldson Layne scored 8 points for the Boy’s from the 8th and both Keneya Penn and Deondre Slater scored 5. In the second game Neville Smith Junior notched 15 points with 9 rebounds, Jonte Trumpet scored 8 and Kyle Penn 7.

Malachi Smith scored 11 for District 6 U13’s and Karvin Robin 16 for the U16 team.

On Tuesday District 8 and District 5 shared the series as the U13’s won 17-15 and the U16’s lost 51-32. Penn and Slater led the way for the U13’s with 6 and 3 points respectively, whilst in the U16’s District 8 found District 5’s Terrique Wattley too hot to handle.

Wattley scored 12 points with 9 rebounds and was aided by 8 points from Demoi Hodge as well as 6 a piece from Oscar Herrara and Maxwell.

For District 5 U13’s J’Quan Bodkin scored 8 points with 9 rebounds and Keon Frederick finished with 4 points.

    This year is the worst basketball I've ever seen here. Teams not really district teams exact east. The so called basketball guru's of roadtown should get their act together. C......e is so rude, the others cheat for their favorite teams and players. Where is the basketball federation? All this nonsense going on. Coaches can't even coach, players undisciplined. Its a travesty.
