This Week We Feature Young Professional Sandi L. Parillon
A self-described Cane Garden Bay girl, Sandi is the youngest of four siblings and attended the Althea Scatliffe Primary School and BVI High School before starting out as a professional.
Sandi currently serves as an Operations Supervisor with the CIBC-First Caribbean Bank where she has worked for over a decade, climbing the rungs to eventually take up her current position.
Outside of the corporate world though, our Young Professional has developed a new found but intense passion for creating things and after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime by her sister Reba, she was convinced to put her shoulders to the wheel of entrepreneurship.
Earlier this year, Sandi officially made the decision to turn her new found passion into a budding business, J-Soriah’s Hair Bows & Accessories. Among some of her breath taking creations are hair bows, head bands, tutus, bow flip flops and other similar customised items.
While her fondness for the business came as a surprise to her, it is something that she has readily embraced even as she felt driven towards the field of Cosmetology in the past.
A mother of two young children, Sandi’s creations have become something of a love affair for her and as she explained, it takes a little more than basic knowledge of the nuts and bolts of a business to be successful in this particular field. “It takes a creative eye and a lot of patience to stay on it,” she related while speaking animatedly of her experiences.
Her steadily blooming business often finds her staying up late into the night to complete orders for her valued clientele. She also revealed that the drive to press on often comes from the clients themselves, “The customers keep me motivated and all the feedback I’ve gotten so far has been very positive,” she beamed.
One of her main challenges, Sandi said, has been filling last minute orders. But she often finds herself extending beyond the call of duty and going the extra mile to put a smile on the face of her customers and looking at her work, it is not hard to see why.
While she does not currently have a storefront operation, Sandi envisions taking her business way beyond this and hopes to someday cater to an international market. For now, she continues to take orders and expands the boundaries of her creativity to even newer heights as she surprises herself with each item from her production line.
Our Young Professional advises young persons to keep their distance from negative energy as it will only serve to bring you down, “Always surround yourself with positive people, stay away from persons who continue to feed you negative energy. You need to be around positive people who are going to lift you up and try to encourage you to do something.”
