This week’s young professional, Robyn C. Kelly, considers herself very much the all-rounder at her job but also tells a tale of quiet strength and resilience both within and outside of her day job.

Robyn grew up in Baugher’s Bay as the second child of six siblings and attended the Althea Scatliffe Primary School and later the BVI High School before entering the professional sphere.

Robyn has been working at Digicel BVI for the past six years where she is now attached to the Finance Department as an Accounts Executive. She previously worked at CCT before her current post for four years.

She is responsible for among other things, liaising with the various branches of Digicel along with its distributors to ensure that income for each day is accurately presented but Robyn stated that she ‘dabbles in everything’.

Robyn said her job is particularly demanding and she works long hours most days, often not leaving the office before 6PM but she also realises that this is the place that she wants to be at this point in her life. “I find here [at Digicel] that I’ve been given an opportunity to do more, to learn more and it’s getting me to a point where I want to be,” Robyn related.

While she displays a sense of quietness about her for the most part, her real qualities become more visible when persons are in need. “I like to help people, I don’t like to see people just by the wayside, not knowing their head from their foot,” Robyn said.

She readily embraces the challenge of what she does and confessed that she feels that persons sometimes underestimate the amount of work that goes into her job. Her position requires a keen eye for problem solving and keeps her very busy throughout the day.

As the mother of a young seven year old, Robyn is kept quite busy while away from the office but finds time on weekends for her few passions.

Robyn’s spirit is one of great resolve and strength and she is often the person that close friends and family lean on in times of trouble. She has managed to overcome the deaths of two very close family members, her mother and brother, who died two years apart a few years ago and explained that this experience has transformed her personality in a significant way.

Her brother’s tragic death in particular came as a shock to her at the time and she vividly recalls the circumstances surrounding the incident which occurred even as her mother was in the midst of a terminal illness.

Robyn credits her mother’s handling of her brother’s death for imparting some of the strength she possesses today and said her encouraging words have lived with her throughout the years.

Our Young Professional advises youths to always stay focused on the positive things in life and to surround themselves with persons who will help them along the right path. “Stay in school, if you have the opportunity to further your education, you do that as it takes you a long way despite what others might say,” she added.
