A Corporate Administrator at Morgan and Morgan, our Young Professional for this week Richardo H. Bailey, better known as FigGa, enjoys the quite side of life yet a public figure as he has a passion for on-stage entertainment as a singer and lyrics writer.

While not born here in the Virgin Islands, Bailey said he is well rooted having lived all his school and professional life here and has no plans turning his back on the Virgin Islands.

“I was born in Kingston, Jamaica raised by my grandmother until about the age of 7, migrated to the British Virgin Islands where my mom was living at the time,” he said

Bailey attended the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School and then the BVI High School before moving on to start his tertiary education at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

He said he grew up like every normal youth that would ride bikes, play video games etc but most of this growing up time was spent indoors. He has two sisters and three brothers but only grew up with one of them.

He explained that being an ‘in-house’ boy, most of his time was spent either watching television or listening to music and that's where he got an interest in music.

“One day my uncle brought me a mix CD with some dancehall songs and from then is where the love grew for the music. I started listening to a lot of music, started writing as well on instrumentals that came with most of the mixtapes,” he vividly recalled.

He said that it was around his last year in high school he managed to record his first song with the help of a friend, “It wasn't of good quality but it was a start. From then I kept writing and recording songs and also learning on how to use the programmes and stuff, anything to do with music just to perfect the sound,” said Bailey.

After high school, he went on to the HLSCC community college for a while but due to circumstances beyond his control he did not get to finish his course.

“I began to work still on the focus of music and invested in certain equipment until I had a little studio setup. In 2010 a show was kept here in the BVI featuring dancehall artist Jahvinchi who was a part of the Portmore Empire we linked up while he was here and we did a track title "How Them Fi Bad" which got good reception on the social media at the time.”

In 2013, he left the island and returned to Jamaica for about 2 years. Within that 2 years he pushed his music, working in studio as an engineering recording artists.”

He said there he made friends with a lot of artists who allowed him take the microphone in parties to showcase his talent. “I was well received most of the places we went to. I picked up video editing at the time as well where I did couple videos for artists like I Wayne and a female singer from Germany who featured Sizzla on her track.”

Then things hit the rocks for him he came back home to the VI and continued doing music with the PDB label which was created by a friend Rhakim Todman and himself. The label consist of around 6 artistes which is doing well in the streets. He has released several videos for the label and also a video for Show Time Band for their song "Carnival Zombie".

Enjoying his current profession, Bailey looks forward to the day of being an internationally recognised artist, owning his own business and upping his game in the academic line reading for a degree studying business management as soon as he manages to acquire the required funds to do so.

He loves listening to establish artists. He believes the future is unpredictable, “So I believe someone's life can take a drastic turn in one day so I don't like to plan I just let things flow so it’s where ever life takes me in the next 5-10 years but I am keeping my eyes on the positive side of life.”

He said that if he has to choose another career he would choose farming as most people won’t expect that but he was exposed to farming at a young age and there is more to farming than planting fruits and vegetables.

His advice to youth of today, "Patience, my main advice would be nothing happens before its time, great things take time, just don't lose sight of what you want and stay focused.”
