Aspiring midwife Nickelia N. Drummond is still a student but she has already ventured into business, selling clothing and jewellery accessories via a boutique brand called 'Kelia’s Fashion Boutique.'

Origins and education

A resident of Fahie Hill, Tortola, in the Virgin Islands (VI) Ms Drummond told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), that she is currently in high school, but she still has her eye fixed on being an entrepreneur.

She attended Althea Scatliffe Primary School and is currently a student at the Elmore Stoutt High School.

While our young professional is yet to attend college, she has big dreams of becoming a midwife, however, still loves to dabble in athletics, with a love for fashion that was eventually channelled into starting a business.

“My mother helped me with the funds to start out my business,” the young Ms Drummond told VINO about her business called Kelia’s Fashion Boutique.

Venturing into business

According to the young entrepreneur, “My business consists of a variety of clothing, accessories and shoes.  What I enjoy about my business is getting to keep my customers happy with affordable and trendy products,” she said.

Speaking on the challenges, Ms Drummond told VINO that some business difficulties include making home delivering because she is not of the age to drive, and would have issues organizing a delivery vehicle.

Never the less, business is still booming despite the challenges.

“My biggest life lesson has been to have confidence in myself and put my idea out there and go through with it,” she further said.

Although Nickelia is looking to grow as an entrepreneur, she said that being a midwife will allow her to help people and save lives.

Parting Advice

Turning attention to COVID-19, our young professional said it has affected her athletics life and has drawn barriers between family members in terms of social meetings.

To other youths looking to peruse a business career and venture into entrepreneurship, she urged them the act on those passions.

“Follow your dreams and have a positive mindset,” Mrs Drummond told VINO.
