This Week We Feature Young Professional Lean T. Francis
Meet Young Professional Lean T. Francis, 20, of Hannah’s Estate, Tortola. Lean is a Compliance Clerk at the ATU General Trust (BVI) Limited.
According to Lean, “I was an intern for a month and I decided to stay. I knew nothing about compliance at first, but it grew to be something that I enjoy doing.”
Her responsibilities include, filing for the department and completing reviews for the services that her department offers to their clients. She ensures that the day to day operations are completed in the department.
“I love that I can create a balance between work and play. In my position, I learn a bit of everything. So I enjoy working on projects which help me to learn in a creative way.”
Ms Francis disclosed that she has the most unique set of coworkers anyone will ever meet.
Our Young Professional’s dream goes beyond being a Compliance clerk. She is on the path to making her dreams a reality, which includes ultimately becoming a Corporate Lawyer.
Lean Francis explained that when she becomes a lawyer, she would use that capacity to give back to her community and bring a positive change in the Territory.
“I see myself implementing ways that our businesses are protected and produce high quality services that set us apart from other countries,” said our Young Professional.
Prior to working at ATU General Trust (BVI) Limited, Ms Francis, at a very young age, assisted her aunt at her locally owned business.
Early Education
Lean T. Francis is a proud member of the Class of 2008 and 2014 at the British Virgin Islands Seventh-day Adventist School (BVI SDA), originally known as the Carrot Bay Seventh-day Adventist school.
After high school, Ms Francis pursued Advanced Level (‘A Level’) courses in Humanities at Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School in St Lucia for 2 years.
Inspiration/Interest
In her “me time” Lean takes pleasure in travelling, tasting new cuisines, dancing and participating in pageantries. She revealed that she is a contestant in this year’s Miss British Virgin Islands Pageant; ambassadorial candidate number 5. “I’m a person who loves to enjoy life.”
With every Young Professional we feature, we ask them who they would consider as their role model or inspiration.
Lean said her mother is her biggest inspiration because her mother has always been a leading example in all that she taught her in life.
Our Young professional points out that music and vision help to keep her focused.
“My perfect combinations: To be focused, you have to see where you are going and with music, I get to relax and feel at ease.”
Advice to people
Ms Francis shared some encouraging words with other young people:
“Know who you are and make a difference. Stand firm for what you believe in and don’t let the thoughts of others deter you. Keep pushing. Nothing in life comes easy, but all the sacrifices will be worth it. Surround yourself with people who will motivate you.”
