This Week We Feature Young Professional Kesheem D. Hodge
At the budding age of 23 years, our young professional Kesheem Deondre’ Hodge is exactly where he would have wanted to be and that is a place where he can expand his horizon as he positions himself to one day becoming the Director of Tourism of the Virgin Islands.
“Ultimately that’s where I want to be but it’s not my limit. I will one day get there and from there the sky is the limit,” Kesheem told Virgin Islands news online.
This very articulate and positive young man was recently appointed to the position of Executive House Keeper at the Bitter End Yacht Club, a position the company’s management said could not have been better filled. There he is responsible for some thirty five (35) workers under his astute leadership.
Kesheem recently returned to the Virgin Islands having obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Travel Tourism and Hospitality Management with concentrations on International Hospitality Management, Psychology and Cruise Line Operations Management from the Johnson and Wales University. He graduated magna cum laude.
At Bitter End Yacht Club, Kesheem is no strange face as he has had several stints there prior to venturing off to study abroad.
“There is no place in the world I would rather be than in the Virgin Islands, my home land. This is a very unique place in the world and I want to spend the greater part of my life contributing towards its development. I love my homeland the Virgin Islands and that’s without a doubt,” he said.
His love for home was strong enough to bring him back to these shores as there were numerous opportunities abroad that had presented themselves and that would have seen him taking home impressive salaries and fringe benefits. “I have been to a lot of places, seen a lot of things, held many positions, but I chose to take those experiences and return home to develop my country. Here is where I got my rooting and here is where I have to give back,” the young man related.
To many persons, especially those in Virgin Gorda, the face and unique personality of Kesheem D. Hodge are ever present as during his years of study overseas he had taken every opportunity to return home to spend time among his people. “Today, many persons still asking me when are you going back? Let me say this my people, I am home, I am home and with every sting of joy that runs through my veins I am home,” he cheerfully said.
While studying overseas, Kesheem held very prominent positions at his university, in organizations and other groups which are to be credited for him traveling the world over representing leadership roles. As part of his academic pursuits, he has touched the shores of Vienna in Austria, Prague in the Czech Republic, Budapest in Hungary, Paris in France and Brussels in Belgium.
Other than being professional, there is the very social side of our Young Professional. He loves adventure. He sees the sport of photography as fun, and loves being out on the beach relaxing maybe with a novel.
“It’s just something I love doing. I love being photographed, it’s fun for me, posing and being photographed. It’s just something I love,” he said.
Kesheem has a special appreciation for music and was an active member of the New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church Mass Choir while in Miami, as well as Chapter President of the National Society Minorities in Hospitality while at Johnson and Wales. He represented the university at numerous out of state conferences.
His love for God is unquestionable as he recognizes that his success hinges greatly on him holding steadfastly on to God’s promises and that once he trusts in his maker he would never leave or forsake him. “No matter where I go, no matter what I do, I go to my rock that is the heavenly father for his guidance and protection. I will never let go of that value that was embedded in me from the time I know myself,” said Kesheem.
Kesheem is a well rooted Virgin Islander having spent most of his growing up years residing both on Tortola and Virgin Gorda. He is the middle child of five children for his parents and sees that as unique.
“I wouldn’t say I am the spoil child of my family, but I see me being in the middle as unique because I draw from by older siblings and maintain by youth while being an influence to my younger siblings.”
“My ultimate goal is to inspire persons, even if it is one person, like the way those individuals inspired me.” This he said as he spoke highly of his parents, his darling grandmother, Ms Janis Brathwaite-Edwards and Khrystine L. Allen.
Our Young Professional is currently working towards establishing an organization to be named ‘Modeled Citizens’. “I want to give back in every way I possibly can. Many persons have been an influence in my life and I see my role as one to be giving back.”
To the many youths in the Virgin Islands society, Kesheem D. Hodge has this to say, “Education is key to your success in this life. Grab every opportunity that presents itself for you to elevate yourself. Be an out of the box thinker; always strive to see what’s beyond the horizon.”
